Best kind of sat nav for lorries?

I’d appreciate that too Mike!

For those who bought SatNav off Chris at TruckTables - Are these able to be updated for newer maps etc?

Very tempted to buy one .

Yes, I believe they are.

When you buy one, it has his number and instructions with it, which basically walk you through how to use it properly.

Thanks, for that price I’ll give one a whirl as my old man used to say!

Hi. Hello everyone from a newbie…couldnt see an intro section so am starting where my interest lies.

I have joined as am completely confused by the whole Sat nav thing and hope someone can explain

The cheapest Lorry 7" in ebay are unbranded, run igo8(what is that?) and come in about 45 quid, and you have to download maps to a tf card (what is that?)
The next best value are Nozatec, various models run windows of some kind? Wince 6.0 and you still have to download maps.
Then there is the Chris one, people on here are talking about, which is more expensive and what happens if he disappears, no new maps?

On balance I think that Nozatech is the way to go, but you guys are using igo…why is it better .

Also does anyonw have a link to an idiot guide on installing new maps on these machines because I have never done that, Just got the tomtom out of the box and plugged it in until it died.
Thank you
Pies

So i have this satnav from chris. Its a total joke. The postcodes are so inaccurate it shows you on a motorway exit which line to take 10 meter befor junction or traffic lights took me on very narrow streets ( wich im very proud of myself cause i dealt it fine turning reversing etc) . But… is eeasy to work with. Takes you around and around till you reach ur destination which i sayd 90% is not accurate. So total disappointment. Is good if u do inter depot only on motorways but for multidrop when you go on small cities or villages is a waste. My opinion. Ill get the proper truck satnat. Tomtom 5150

Thank you Sfantu
Got my head around it a bit better. Windows is the op system and Igo the additonal gps software. TF’s are mini cards that can double as a standard SD card if you buy the adapter.
Going to plump for the mid range Noza tec and keep the Sat nag looking at a map as I am looking at this for leisure use,
Pies

That’s disappointing to hear. I’ve only heard good feedback about them apart from your experience.

I’ve used mine a couple of times now, and it got me to where I needed to be with no bother at all.

My only gripe is the battery life when it’s unplugged. It only lasted about 45 minutes without the wire, then I had to drive with it constantly plugged in. This could be something that all sat nav’s suffer from, as I’ve only had 2. This lorry one, and a tom tom I have in the car for when I go somewhere new. Both have pretty crappy battery lives.

Blimey. A lorry satnav for a man with a lorry.

Could have just told us you drove a lorry.

But thanks for the picture of your lorry, I personally don’t find it superfluous at all.

So many fake lorry drivers on here that don’t actually drive lorries, must be why they don’t need lorry satnavs.

Now I can safely remove you from my list of potential fraudsters, as I have seen your lorry.

fake lorry drivers? I have declared leisure use. I had to join the “professional” forum to ask a question of what I thought would be a friendly crowd. if this is the forum psyche why not have a guest area? I have a 7.5 metre camper van which the tomtom will direct over 6ft wide, 1ton limit, pack bridge, then try and turn you back to that route for the next 10 miles. Sorry.

Ring Chris at HGV Trucktables,
Put your sizes in, destination anywhere in Europe and away you go,
£100 will buy you the nav delivered to your door, pay your 1st nights parking and a good few beers too to celebrate

I got 1 of these from Chris & I must say it beats my previous tomtom as it is a truck version (see picture) & a bargain at £70 delivered…0

Chris from Halifax? I went to his house and got one - nice bloke, my parents only live in Huddersfield, so whilst visiting them, I nipped round and bought one off of him. We’ll happy with it.

Its Lee from Halifax, i used to work with the lad.

Yeah, I thought as much, given the eBay name was "LeeandLucy, but loads of people jumped on about it being someone called Chris. I just assumed it was a couple of different people, selling the same product.

Hi Pieboy, I don’t have any experience with downloading maps for sat navs. I’ve always just bought them pre loaded with hgv/euro maps. Good luck.
