Boyze:
I do remember them but i cant remember what lorries they had.. Seem to remember Austin Artics coming from over that way, did`nt they share a yard with a fuel company??
When you turn off the A339 by what used to be Greenham Common and run down into Ecchinswell was there yard on the right or am i thinking of someone else??
Also remember some tippers running out of Headley just down the road but cant remember the company name.
There was a yard in Ecchinswell from where Palmers ran out off. They ran some Atkinson Borderers & a Seddon Atkinson 400 (which can still be seen around Newbury with a fun fair). They then went on to run Volvo F88 & F10’s & they had a Daf 2100 16ton flat along with a 2800 & two 3300’s. I spent many a happy day in their yard washing lorries or out on the road with my late grandad Dennis Flitter who worked for them up until they packed up.
I followed my grandad into lorry driving. I started by working for P.A.G Transport in Reading then worked for Sony in Thatcham & i am now working for Sainsbury’s in Basingstoke. Hope this is of help

Malcom Flitter was sorting out my front garden and laying a new drive three or four years ago, and was distinctly chuffed when I came home in a blue Atkinson Mk.2 tractor - as he sat in it, he was telling me all about his dad working for Palmers and driving a blue Mk.2 Atkinson tractor!

I remember it well as that was the first lorry i went out in as a lad. The next lorry grandad drove was the Seddon Atkinson 400 reg no. JRV 280P which had a Gardner 240 engine. He then had a Volvo F88 followed by a Volvo F10 reg no. OHO 100T which he drove until Palmers packed up.
I followed grandad & became a lorry driver. I started driving for P.A.G Transport in Reading (no longer going) then went to Sony in Thatcham, i am now working for Sainsbury’s in Basingstoke

I took this on the little fair on the wharf at Newbury in 2004.
I have two photos of this lorry taken at Palmers yard, one on this own & one with grandad standing next to it that i will have to try & post on here.
Have you still got your mk2 Atkinson?

Look forward to seeing those pics, Roger!
Yes, I still have my Atki, although it’s “resting” at the moment…
240 Gardner.
Isnt that one of Masons fairground lorries now?? Always nice to see a local lorry survive and stay in the area…

Would love to see the photos that you have mate. If you have any problem uploading them let me know and I will try and help…
G Pelham & Sons taken at the ERF Rally 29th June 1991
Thanks for the new photo! I photographed it in 2001 and 2004, after it had had a new coat of paint Looking closely at it, it had had several coats of filler as well…
HI THERE everyone- I found this pic of the last JWQ lorry I had, a merc 17-35 and yes, my wife and eldest son WERE forced to be in the picture! All the very best, Terry.
HI THERE Everyone, the latest thing I’ve tried is to upload some videos to the site- The subject matter is or course JWQ lorries and drivers and this footage was taken on my wedding day , June 1990- the quality isn’t fantastic (no h-d then!) but a great time capsule nontheless!! STOP PRESS STOP PRESS ! Sadly they can’t be downloaded to this site BUT all you have to do to see them is log on to www.youtube.com and type in the search JWQ WEDDING LORRIES, I’ve downloaded 5 90 SECOND CLIPS , in sequence of the journey from the church to the reception at Courage brewery. My wedding, as far as The Reading depot was concerned was the last big Jwq “do” ever, sad to say.So there you are chaps, if of any interest to you please log on to youtube.com, Terry.
TautlinerTerry.
Watched the videos on you tube.. Some good old scenes on there of Doubles Garage at Spencers Wood and the Brewery, that must of been about the time I was on for James & Son working out of Reading Brewery. Shame about the VW bettle horns on the Mercs, but the MAN`s air horn sounded good!!! Bet your missis loved climbing that ladder■■?
Just thought I would move this back to the front as there are alot of of new members from around the Berkshire area and it would be good to see some new pictures…

Great pictures Steve… Didnt Zanya have the Vodaphone contract and was an off shot of Hollis Transport■■?? I remember Stuart Looby used to drive the Ford Cargo and Dean ? drove the Volvo... I drove a Daf 2800 for Hollis when Fraser Guy was on holiday and had a night out with Dean in Transmark... Nigel Bromham..... Didnt he have some tippers at some point with old Brian Prodbury (Hadleys)… Seem to remember Trevor Heath (Chesters son) driving one■■?
Great photos again Alan… I still like that photo of the 142 that you had stolen… You may have to get Scotty`s photos from him and scan them because you know what he is like with compoooters!!!
