About to go for my CAT C, am calling all these companies who are offering the world. Some have terrible reviews, turns out some are brokers (didn’t even realise). £2000+ is a lot of money, and I have no clue who to go with or best way forward. In Glasgow area, can anyone advise me as all I keep getting is the best sales pitches in the world. I am a total HGV newbie but very serious in doing my training, I just can’t afford a £2000 mistake,
I don’t know about your area, but go and see any trainers at their depot before parting with a penny. You wouldn’t buy a £2k car without at least seeing it would you?
Brokers will not be up for in-person visits. A decent trainer will be keen to show off their kit and premises.
Good luck.
three in glasgow its self
you dont have to do it in your local area. there was a company that sponsered the forum they offered free accomadation i think and a discount if you are a member on here
just looked on the list its peter smythe in cambridgeshire
When I passed my test was offered a free assmemnt drive in class 2 to give them an idea how many hours training I’ll need.
If this still happens go to training centres have an assessment drive that way you can speak to the instructor get a feell of the place if it’s decent or not
Give Peter Smythe Transport Training a call, if you want to train outside the Glasgow area. I personally did as I thought it would make me more focused on the road signs if I didn’t know the area.
They put you up at a hotel for the course if you come from further than 70 miles away IIRC.
I did Class 2 and Class 1 with them and I couldn’t fault them.
Yeah thanks for the info. Took a drive today into an actual test centre from the TN recommended trainers and am very glad I did. Face to face sit down and all the advice I needed without the heavy sales pitch. What a difference, so cheers.
Some people think I’m crazy for not going straight for the CAT 1??.
I’m an novice, surely going CAT 2 first and being more likely to pass, as well as starting off small and building experience ain’t that bad an idea is it?
nothing wrong with going class 2. Most people go straight for class 1 then find they cant get a job and end up doing class 2 work for a while. then when they do get class 1 they spend extra money on extra lessons to get back upto par.
If you get a job with a company that runs both class 1 and 2 vehicles. then you are in with a fighting chance to get onto class 1 when you decide to do it.
Nothing wrong with class 2.
these days there is very little difference in pay between class 1 and 2 jobs.
builders merchants jewson etc tend to take on new paases and will put you though your hiab if that interest you.
End day depends what you want to do. I know some people who are happy doing class 2 work.
Yeah that’s great advice, goin for the CAT 2 at GTG. Appreciatte all the help and will give Jewson a call for sure when Ive got my ticket
