Bedfords in general

Ok these are not KMs and not TMs,but cant find another thread to put these on,so hope its ok to put on here.
We bought three of these units with KM style cabs but fitted with the V6 71 Detroit desiel two stroke engine.,i say fitted, but they stuck out the back of the cab about 3 foot.,they were a lwb units with slideing 5th wheels and were sold as a tester and were to be one of the options for the new to be TM cab in a couple of years time. Running at 32 ton. Apart from the cab being small and not having a sleeper,I thought the engine was great, even grossing 32 ton they did like high reves ,I liked the engine tone and they done the job a treat for the 2 years i drove one.in UK and Europe Heres a few pics i have.

Hi Les,
One of the firms I drove for S W Brisbane of Knighton, had Bedford S type 4x4 fitted with a lime spreading body, which they used it for.In the winter it had snow plough attachments put on it,and was hire to Radnorshire County Council for snow ploughing and gritting.
Cheers Dave.

the tm was a detroit engined example, and the other one is a KH,basically a km but with single headlight tk cab.he also had several other nearly new 24 ton gross km units and got great service from them

Its a Bedford honestly, :unamused:  being run at the moment by my son to move his partners horse’s around.

Wheel Nut:
I never associated Bedfords with Pickfords!

Malc most depots had at least one we had 3 at sheffield a 4 wheeler for carrying the heavy gang tackle and 2 12 ton payload artics and they were usually very busy as we had a wharehouse and storage and a lot of machinery came in on flats or tilts and was delivered on the Bedfords as it was mostly unloaded by back wheels out and onto skates to be winched inside and positioned.
The thing I recall is they never got a straight forward load it was wide, high or hand off load as if the load was a crane off it went on a flat but you soon learnt how to fasten awkward pieces of machinery down and sheet them, a lot being top heavy.
cheers Johnnie

Hi Johnnie,
This pic was taken at Welland Steam Ralley near Malvern by Roy Morgan.
Cheers Dave.

Dave they must have got a very big block of reg. numbers as we had EYH 704J or EYH 701J at Sheffield and the Samson was EYH 886J so it looks as though they got a block of at least 130 at that time but that wood be for H H, tankers, removals and contract wagons.
cheers Johnnie

Can’t say that I’ve actually seen that TK myself Johnnie, haven’t been to the Welland show, might go this year as it’s not far from here.
Cheers Dave.
