Bedford Lorries, you used to see them everywhere

On the way to st tropez with this one. E reg tk ,the old girl was a regular on this job , and she was no spring chicken when this was taken, would’ve been about 1975.

Not a un-common site years ago, drivers taking their Hounds to work with them, done it myself when on day-work! Another thing that has been stopped no doubt by H&S & Insurance or another of the seemingly 1000s of rules that seem intent on stopping us doing our jobs :imp:  . But there couldn’t have been much space left in the cab with this pair on Security watch :open_mouth:  Regards Chris

This one was called Nicky & could be nice, But then he

d could be rather nasty if someone tried to get into the cab, Regards Larry.

Luton sleeper by the look of the window in the farthest from camera! Regards Chris

Palatial compared to memories of sleeping upstairs in the luton (when I could get up there over the load) at places like Penrith truck stop in the middle of winter. With several furniture blankets as a mattress, I was lovely and toasty inside my sleeping bag with some blankets on top and I could get a cracking night’s sleep. Getting up at 4.30am when it was minus a lot and the inside of the wagon was covered in frost was a whole other thing.

In a KM, can anyone tell me what the orange light sticking out of the console by the air gauges signified? I’ve recently got hold of an operators instruction manual and it is not present in the picture and key to the various warning lights on the dash.

Think it flashed,to indicate, when the indicators were on.

Yeah sounds likely but just wondered cos I think it already has an orange flasher in the center for the indicators, a thin orange rectangle flashes next to a blue one for the high beam (or “straight” beam as the manual calls it). Could just be an add on I suppose. Seen it on a couple though so thought it odd it isn’t shown on the manual.

Tell you what, its bugging me now because i can remember seeing one, in a Tk years ago.
It didnt have an air pressure gauge,so pehaps it was a low pressure warning light.

Hi the Orange light low air warning km first bedford to have full air brakes from memory the indicator warning light was green located at top middle of windscreen if I am wrong I apologise

Now that’s stirred a bit of a memory, Neil-
LAD-cabbed Albions were equipped with a painted (yes, honest!) green 5-watt bulb above the centre of the windscreen as an indicator warning light. You couldn’t miss it at night! :unamused:

Hi all I passed my test on the sleeper cab then the owner give me a job testing learners how to reverse on the dark blue one ,I drove the rotherwas one ,also tdw had a sleeper bedford 7.5 toner on delanair work, also two w Jones removals I used to hobble on when I was supposed to be in school got £7 a removal happy days

From memory, it was a low air pressure warning light, coupled with a buzzer.

What sort of horse power would this Bedford of Had ? With the high luton (wind) and pulling
that trailer it must have been seriously slow ■■?

My granddads old Bedford parked up at King Stag.

If it had the 466 cu ins engine then it would be around 143 bhp. It wouldn’t be pulling a lot of weight though but, as you said, wind drag would affect performance and mpg.

Pete.
