Whilst waiting for the Malta-Gozo Ferry one morning a couple of years ago , this well-laden Bedford KM
joined the queue. Some nasty-lookingprongs
protruded a good distance beyond the platform , and only a
red cloth served as a warning to anyone getting too close for comfort. I did not fancy walking to the rear to take a photograph,
just in case the driver wanted to play " motorized darts " by reversing !!Cheers, cattle wagon man.
this km looks like an ex coca cola /or corona delivery truck or come to that it could have been ex alpine soft drinks I used to drive for the beecham group on the corona contract in Aintree liverpool it looks identical to one I drove ■■?

Yes you’re right. They had at least 4 used on the Vauxhall contract
I notice that the BRS S-types were fitted with the “narrow” bumper. Was this to save a couple of pounds of weight or a couple of shillings in price?

In the early fifties when we got new Bedford SB (Petrol) Pantechnicons we took off frnt Bumpers & fastened no plates onto front grill & take off inner rear wheels to get them under 4 ton Unladen weight & save taxtion every year thereafter. Afterwards weighing we put them back on again, of course. However I suspect BRS would take a more honest method of weight loss
We used to get our petrol-powered S-type platforms under three tons by similar dubious methods- half a gallon of petrol, drain the radiator, small battery from the boss’ car, etc.
Used to know a farmer who had an S type tipper.Fairly knocked about but was used for grain haulage, lovely motor.I guess it was about a 7 ton version.
1972 model KCC I owned this one in 90/92 it was a little worker 4 ton down 4 ton back nearly every day 5 days a week roughly 250 kms a day using super petrol about 55/65 cts a litre from memory could,nt run it to day …note badge on grill… a transplant 253 Holden V8 …4 ton no worries !!! took off like a Formula one
Now here’s a rare beast a Bedford KM with a high-roof sleeper in Montevideo.
