EZY & FR are [zb] airlines, thankfully they weren’t on this programme & they talked BA instead. I’m sure the cat3 ILS goes further i.e. cat3A, B & C…

I reckon Virgin Atlantic ought to be the British flag carrier not BA…
BTW, VIrgin Atlantics domestic flights, there not VIrgin, it’s Aer Lingus

I’ve never flown with BA so can’t comment, I have flown with Virgin and they were no better than any other airline. We upgraded to premium economy once and it was more expensive than the same service with Thomson, only not as good.

My mum and brother have and reckon they were brilliant…
Whilst I’m a self confessed airliner geek, I really don’t like flying…

The lady presenter was waving at the first officer who sits on the right but she said she was waving at the captain as it was leaving the bay. While filming on the runways and terminals i think the presenters were not wearing any ear protection.Try and see the air traffic contrloer movie called Pushing Tin with John Cussack and Billy Ray Thirnton.

Fantastic programme … Hats off to the bbc for this one

loved the programme good on the bbc. having flown with ba out of terminal 5 can say from my experience they were good to fly with, used ezy a couple of times and that’s a bit like being on a glorified bus, also flown with Lufthansa that was typical german efficiency, taxied to the runway and turned on and straight up in the air no waiting, didn’t even slow down

On what basis is this opinion formed?

I have flown with both Easyjet and BA in total about 20 times in the last year. I’ve not had any problems, with either
delays yes, but I expect them to happen when I’m on the last flight back to Glasgow.

On a basis of ethics convenience & safety to a degree…!

Did anyone see the Call Center, the firm in Wales with a boss that is up for a laugh and a joke.A very funny boss.

Anybody else build models of airliners?
I do, and I’ve got a Boeing 767 to build which is going into Air Canada colours :sunglasses:

There is a massive misconception that low cost airlines, use low cost pilots, and prefer low cost safety. The Civilian Aviation Authourity can and do turn up unannounced and watch what is happening, they will also book a flight to say Glasgow with a low cost airline, and fly as a normal passenger making notes as they go. IF any safety problems are highlighted that airline is grounded until such time as those safety issues are resolved. BA, as well as Ryanair and Easyjet do employ new pilots who only have between 1000 and 2000 flying hours to their names. Perfectly legal and safe. FYI Jet2.com and Monarch are also low cost airlines. Monarch had to rebrand as much of their buisness was going to the likes of EZY etc. The engineers for these airlines are also highly trained and experienced, and they will not allow any aircraft to fly if there is a problem with it.

Tv series called Bush Pilots was an under rated show and shoukd have higher viewers.s
It was about pilots buiding up their hours in the African bush carrying safari tourists in puddle jumpers.
With a rain soaked run way the pilot increases the throttle to raise the nose to avoid the puddles and water ingesting in the engines.

On that basis I’ll avoid BA. They managed to ■■■■■■■ Heathrow when an engine cowl was left un-locked. 192 flights cancelled.
Where as on the same day an Easyjet had to return to Glasgow when the windscreen cracked, plane landed, no drama.

I heard that pilots have to be well paid as the last thing they need on their mind while flying is financial worries at home.On the Easy jet documentary many years ago it featured a famous rugby player who got his licence to work for them.
I wonder if he still there.
It is shame the cockpits are no go areas for passengers. It was great to sit up front and have a chat with the crew.

He’s not, he works for Virgin Atlantic apparently #Tony
Not all low cost airline crew are well paid, some actually pay to work & that could potentially cause safety concerns, I’m waiting for the 1st one to crash before people wake up to this hidden problem…!
Btw FR only take on low hour cadets (2-300hours) or direct entry captains, not experienced FIrst Officers…
@colingl-yes they crippled Heathrow for hours but everybody survived, i know I’d rather be on a BA flight than some low cost set up if that was to happen…

I think technically monarch has 2 sides to it, chartered & scheduled, it’s in the same league as Thomson, Thomas Cook etc. they fully train their staff unlike EZY & FR… There is no misconception about low cost pilots/safety, it’s true! Look @ a statement that O’Leary once came up with, along the lines of only having one person & the flight deck & a cabin crew member being on standby to jump in should anything go wrong, guess what the Irish CAA/ICAO would say about that…

Sounds like fun, I’ve never tried it, you must have a steady hand…lol The 767 is one of my favourite & I have actually flown Air Canada several times.

Tony Underwood?

Yes…

Well it’s a known fact in the industry that when OLeary speaks, i.e beds and ■■■■■■■■, charging for toilets, he only does it because he gets publicity out of it. Ezy must have changed their policy on pilots then, because they and FR always took low hours pilots and trained em. FR have dedicated training pilots at every base who take newbies up, usually 6 or 7 at a time, do touch and goes, then they have continuation training. I know of a young F.O who passed the basic check, then when he was paired up with the training Captain for his continuation he bounced the aircraft down the runway on landing because he forgot to throttle back, and he had been told and told. They binned him after the 3rd time. As for the wage structure, again this may have changed, but was certainley in place 3 years ago, a full F.O with FR earned as much as an EZY captain. Flybe dash 8 crews are poorly paid, first officer told me he was on £18000 a year, but he was using it to get his hours up, the n he was off

Tony Underwood went on to Airbus A340 and then to Boeing 747 with Virgin. So could be in Nairobi,Tokio,Las Vegas or Antigua or anywhere.

David Gunson has an insider’s view to the reality - very funny

In my own experience British Airways are still the premier carrier although I have had some good deals with Swissair, Virgin Atlantic and Singapore Airlines.

I don’t mind leaving the likes of Easyjet, Ryanair and Monarch to the package tour business. The worst airlines I have ever flown on were Sabena and Excel

EZY still do through CTC, they have been scrutinised recently about the t’s & c’s that go with it so they might change. FR currently only take captains, I doubt a FR FO even makes half of what an EZY skipper makes (£90k+ apparently) because they are only paid by the flight hour & they don’t fly much anymore, remember they have to pay £30k+ just for the privilege…
