Hi we had both battery’s nicked off of our xlx man at the weekend after a call to john Arnold’s they came out and replaced them and I’ve just seen the invoice £752 plus vat, does that sound right?they do all the servicing and safety checks on all 5 of our trucks.
Seems a lot to me, I think we got a pair of batteries for about £300, not sure what their hourly rate is and how far you are away from them, but that much extra for travel and fitting? Ask them for a breakdown of the bill.
Batterys are a hundred quid a go at MAN so where the other 500 pound come from
Sounds very expensive to me. I would imagine batteries are approx max £150 each then we would have charged approx 1.75 hr (£91 total) to fit inc 45mins travel assuming you weren’t too far away. All plus VAT of course. I’d be interested in their price breakdown too!
The words ’ Urine Extraction’ come to mind
So you got robbed twice then by the sounds of it
how’d you come to that conclusion?
by my maths he had total 4 battery’s nicked at approx 150+vat each = 600+vat
lets say it cost the aforementioned £91+vat for the call out
thats £691+vat = approx £820!
doenst sound like he was robbed to me…

Trying to work out how you get to 4 batteries nicked?

I just bought 2 batteries for my DAF and they quoted me £299 each for genuine daf batteries or £115 each for TRP batteries on special offer. Needless to say I went for the special offer ones!
Matt
Just fitting the battery isn’t the end of it on some of the latest generation vehicles, if the Ecu isn’t re-programmed to recognise the new battery then the alternator won’t charge it properly.

Heard thats the case on some modern cars too (the likes of which i’ll never be buying into it must be said), and they call this ■■■■■■■■ progress…

Almost certainly the exact same batteries, made in the exact same factory, to the exact same specification, but with different stickers.

It’s certainly the case were the alternator is controlled by the ECU, if changing the battery type, as the software needs to know the type fitted. The charge rate etc is different for a glass mat battery, compared with a lead acid. I’ve not heard of an ECU update being required if changing like for like, unless a faulty battery has caused the ECU to disable the alternator, or a voltage spike occurred as the thieving bar-stewards disconnected the old ones.
Edit: an ECU will have logged a trouble code when the batteries were disconnected, as the voltage will have been low. So the historical codes will need clearing, but ‘shouldn’t’ light any warning lamps, as the fault isn’t present once the new batteries are fitted.
Ive just replaced my fh500 batteries they were £ 186=Vat each for Exide anti vibration
If you been robbed on the batteries what about all the other work.
