Bardon truck stop has been order to close.
There was a time when a pub would have been happy to have a lorry park next door, the lorry drivers would have provided a large part of the pubs business
The lorry park still does provide lots of customers for the pub, I often stayed there overnight and the pub was the goto place to eat and get the odd drink or two. I am amazed that the pub is objecting to this. They will regret it I am sure.
Every pub wants to be one of those family pubs where mom and dad can take their kids to and have dinner in a warm cosy atmosphere. Not one full of greasy truck drivers swilling beer and shouting loudly above the crowd while the footy is on
A proper pub. Want a meal with your little darlings then go to a restaurant or Mcds.
Hope it goes bust.
I think it is the pub owners complaining isn’t it?
They choose to be a pub that does provide meals, and is open to kids etc.
As I read it the access to the truck park is through the Pub car park?
Why not give it a seperate access and keep it open?
Who owns the pub car park? Pub landlord, public or is the pub and truckstop owned by an absent landlord?
A pretty good aerial picture of it.
A511 at the bottom of pic.
Past the pub and the homes into the truckstop.
It seems the truck park access, is through the pub car par,k and since the truck park has food and an alcohol licence maybe no drivers actually use the pub.
I can see why the pub owners are not happy about trucks driving through the car park.
Not clear who owns the land in that article.
There are not enough truck parks available generally, and any closure is bad news. IMHO the pub has some cause for complaint, but a better access would cure that wouldn’t it?
It’s most likely a decision by the pub chain owners or area manager & not the landlord/tenant to make the objection to the truckstop
Re-reading it, apparently the access is an unadopted road.
That means the public have free access to it, but the council do not maintain the road. It is up to the owners of properties along the road to maintain it.
It seems the pub had no objection, until the park got a liquor license.
It’s always looked a mess to me , can’t see why they couldn’t develop the services just off m1 jct that I believe closed ,assuming it hasn’t been already developed as haven’t been that way for a bit
So mr and mrs woke leftie bought a pub and tried tobturn it into a gourmet bistro type pub. Didnt have the nouse to do a single bit of research and find out there was a truck stop next door. Then probably stopped the truckers going in there to eat etc because it didnt fit with their image so the truckstop started to do food and drink so the pub owners got their precious feelings hurt. So they went crying to the council. As Robroy says i hope they go bust but will add i hope those that use the truck stop make a right nuisance of themselves for the next month.
If you click on the link on the article it directs you to the pub website .
where is says it has recently reopened after a ÂŁ500k refit.
Obviously trucks will bring down the tone of the neighbourhood.
But as above no doubt some truckers use it have a pint and food and if done right would made them a tidy profit
If only all breweries and food deliveries refused to deliver there in protest.
From the local paper, already linked above:
“It is currently in use as a lorry park, and has been since the granting of planning permission in 2020 for a temporary period of 36 months”.:
Well, that’s it, I’ll never go to that pub.
You can see why the objection from the pub then? they have cut their own throats, greed beet them? Would anyone with any sence pull a stroke like that ffs,
That ground is most probably owned by the pub as it`s no use to anyone else, I would have done the same, but as soon as they applied for a liquor licence the entrance would have been restricted for Cars Only,
Green King, I think.
