So as not to look like a complete amateur when I go up to Walkers on Monday, I’ve just rang my old in structor up. l happen to know he’s just bought a new (ish) Volvo artic and have booked a couple of hours with him as I havn’t been out in an artic for 3 months. Am I looking foreward to it .

i would hazard a guess at yes you are
I’ve had a break of 12 months from driving wagons (after only 4 months driving wagons ) for money reasons, but I’m hoping to go back to it soon but am a bit wary of looking a fool as I’ve only been driving a Berlingo for those 12 months (a bit smaller than an artic lol). So I think I will book a couple of hours with my old instructor too, thanks for the idea.

Personaly I am amazed that you feel the need for a few lessons!
with only 3 months away from driving Artic’s you will be able to get in one and drive like you have been driving all the time! but I guess its your dosh!
Congrats on the new Job mate!
Thanks TC, I’ll feel a lot happier when I do the induction (it’s through agency) on Monday if I’ve had a couple of hours out and about if they drop a driving assesment on me - it’s a confidence thing, so I feel it’ll be money well spent. He’ll charge just to cover his diesel which is nice of him and he does an awful lot of work through Walkers so I’ll be able to get the lowdown on the place .
I was away from this industry for 7 years when I took a job driving an artic, pulling a reefer. I hadn’t been in a truck for all that time, but they decided to hire me, pending passing a road test. It was a Freightliner conventional day cab, 48’ trailer, loaded to 78,000 lbs total. The test started out with a 90 degree right, followed by a 12% upgrade, with a stop sign at the top. I just got in, did the curve, held 3rd gear all the way up the hill, and just drove it.
Liberace, I can understand your apprehension about the time interval between passing your test and pulling a fully freighted artic.
I was in a similar position, but in my case the time interval was 23 years.
Stop ■■■■■-footing about. Get out there, and get stuck in.
Eh up Libbo! Good luck with that mate. I for one would appreciate a full ‘lowdown’ of that place when you get in there as I often think to bang an application in there myself but my ‘colleagues’ who’ve worked there previously keep putting me off and for that reason I keep thinking to do it ‘next week’ if you know what I mean.
‘Oh, you’ll only get in there via the agency you know’
‘When I was there it was jobs for the boys… Here’s your 1 drop to Nottingham, Ernie and here’s your 26 DROPS IN LONDON N00B hahaha.’ LOL
etc.blah.blah… Are my friends just ballooning me coz they’d miss me too much if I left 'em I wonder?
Anybody else here work for them?
Eh up again. New Volvo, eh? That sounds like ol’ Billy H… am I right? Only the finest pass with him matey and I should know
good luck lib mate, hope it all goes fantastic for ya mate
Yes Saxone, your spot on it is MR H. A top bloke is Bill. As for getting in Walkers via agency, then that’s exactly what I’m doing. I’ll remember you to him when | see him . Thanks Margate .
