Hi I’ve got work with an agency doing class 2 deliveries with a drivers mate for b&q in Runcorn. Was just wondering if anyone’s done it before and what to expect. I have been doing furniture deliveries in a 7.5 tonner so I’m used to heavy lifting. Thanks in advance.
Hi mate its currently where i work.
Which agency are you going through?
Ill drop you a PM
I never did it at Runcorn but did it from Trafford Park.
Ours was mainly kitchen and bathroom flat pack deliveries.
Reasonable level of work, not too hard, but quite hard, worktops being the biggest / heaviest / most awkward thing you’ll move, I recommend 2 people lift but some porters will shift them on thier own, don’t join in, a good gust of wind and you’ll be off work with a knackered back and not earning due to being twisted or whatever.
Porters were also on day rate, where as agency drivers are per hour and docked lunch break, so upto you but I’d stop for my lunch, some porters would ask me to stop at a customers premesis and they’d unload themselves, fine by me as long as it was legal.
Some tips are given, porters will pocket those whilst getting the paperwork signed for, don’t worry about it, very rarely you’ll both get tipped but that’ll be by the customer rather than him passing it to 1 of you and telling you to split it.
It’s a job I enjoyed because I was getting fit doing it, some nasty delivery spots to test your driving skill - lot of farms having barns converted, new estates etc in a 26t (some 18t) truck.
Can’t tell you wages because agency and location wage vary and it was a few years ago too.
I’d say 95% of loads were correct, loaded pretty damned well and secured well tbh, but that was back then and we used to use demount boxes, no idea if they still do or if stuff is transhipped now.
Stuff is loaded on pallets or frames - frames for the big stuff like worktops, pallets for the flat packs and sometimes washers, fridges etc…
Thanks for the replies and drummerkev it’s an agency called essential in liverpool

Id say that was bob on… would agree completely
Hey Alans2K7,
Exactly as waynedl and drummerkev said!
Also check this post done last year.
Hope the above helps? Enjoy the experience and that’s not said in sarcasm!
It’s not bad work if you follow waynedl’s rule of not picking up a worktop on your own, no need to be superman and lose money over it. As you won’t be rewarded for your strength attempt test

Yeah, I used to do it a lot as well some years ago…
Worktops were a nightmare, but I also didn’t really liked this 6am starts - for some reason…
When your first delivery is 20 mins from depot, people are not too happy to be woken up at half six on the saturday morning
