About time…when I worked for B & M’s a good night was one when you didn’t break down

I have a breakdown about 1/2 a week. Which is always the tail lift or the moving deck on the double deckers.

The cost to get these fixed every week must be skyhigh. I think this is why the company has finally realised. Cheap old trailers aint the best thing to do.

Some of those trailers were a disgrace…sounds like not much has changed  I remember them buying some ex co-op ones that you couldn’t get a pallet on unless you turned it sideways because they had a short tail lift on them, not easy considering the weight some of the warehouse staff in Blackpool used to put on them. :open_mouth:
Swedish, do you work out of Speke? They’d just announced they were moving from Blackpool as I was in the process of leaving, be interesting to see how they got on because I’d heard they’d moved some trucks back.

Tipped at Blackpool a few times never been to the new place but the yard at the old place was unreal. How they got away with operating in such a chaotic fashion from a H&S point of view I’ve no idea.

Yeah i work out of the Speke depot. Tbh i am not sure what the company is actually doing. I know that the speke depot can handle upto 400 stores but they are still running some stores from Blackpool i think. I have went to Blackpool a few times to drop off rubbish after coming back from Scotland and still seems pretty active. I know they have the lease of blackpool depot until 2014 so they wont leave if they are until thats up. But i have a feeling it wont close down i think they will still run out of it as Speke is a joke. Its suppose to be able to cope upto 400 Stores but we do not have enough wagons and trailers or drivers to cope with that demand nor i think the staff in that warehouse could cope. As we seem to have alot of polish on the job the now.

And yeah we got ex-somerfield single deckers just now and they are pretty tight with the pallets. They are useless if you put a pallet of juice on them and the shop has no loading bay as when the tail lift hits the ground its slanted forward and the pallet most of the time tips over.

Saw a dog tired ex focus trl on them the other day. It was rusted to [zb]. Where do they buy these crap from?

do not have a clue haha. One day the same old trailers and there and next day more old rubbish sitting.

Most of the trailers are Ex-Woolworths 15’7 Trailers then you have the 16ft ones which are in the pics and a few Ex-Marks and spencers trailers which the company fitted with brand new taillifts.

But all the old Woolworths and going soon and this is why the new trailers are coming.

Wincanton’s have got a yard full of old de-branded red Woolies trailers in a yard in Portbury - must be rusted to death by now, do B&M want them…?

dont tell them about them or we will get hit with them.

We got an ex focus trailer at our place, I think it’s the rust that’s holding it together, hill hire must have laughed their nuts off when they managed to get it out on hire

If is cheap they will have it. Regardless of condition

B&M have a number of ex-Halfords trailers in Bill Hull’s at Tarleton (next to the canal) being tettied-up. There have been a steady stream of these in & out of there in the last few months.

Wonder if they have finally been painted in B&M livery haha. Very much doubt it tho.

Can’t wait to see if we do get these brand new trailers. Can’t really see it happening tbh.

Ahaaa! Another company with Skodas…

Are the trampers getting those Scannies too? If so then that will be another company that is ‘down grading’ from FULL sleeper cabs to REST cabs!

I was under the impression that if you are out all week then a proper sleeper had to used and not these rest cabs - they were only for occasional nights away?? And if you’ve not got a sleeper then a proper hotel room is in order?

Anyone know if such rules exist - I’d love someone to go into their TM and tell them the score! Can’t see a rep sleeping in a car can we?! :grimacing:

As long as it’s got a bunk it’s a sleeper-cab - that’s what I’d tell any driver that complained/asked anyway.

I’m not an expert on these things but I wouldn’t want to spend my working life in a constant crouch just to save a company a few quid!

I suppose dwarfs woudn’t mind (no offence intended) or children but surely you need to be able to stand up properly to perform certain tasks like putting your trousers on etc and surely anyone over 5ft needs a bit of room? And aren’t employers responsible for the welfare of their workers or is that also part of the myhth?! Let’s start sending the kids to work again!! :open_mouth:  :grimacing:

Just an opinion btw!

hiya,
Was parked behind the B&M outlet in Chester le Street one day last week
when one of your lads was doing a delivery,it is not the best get in would
be a tight thing with a tri-axle trailer and a three axle unit, I had the job
many years ago of backing in the same location with a bog standard two
axle unit but a 45 foot tandem trailer, it’s public parking on both sides
and a busy narrowish road to reverse off, give your lad his due he only had
a couple of shunts but it meant I had to put a few bob in the meter had to
wait for him to tip before I could escape, if he’d an outfit like at the start
of this thread he wouldn’t have found it quite so easy to get in position on
the loading bay.
thanks harry, long retired.

Are you saying that a Scania ‘Highline’ isn’t a “FULL sleeper” but a “rest cab”■■ truth is, your company can send you away all week in a flat top FM Volvo fully legally, & the joke is, it doesn’t even need a working night heater!!!

Ross.

Yes the company is getting Scania’s to replace our MAN trucks but alot of our drivers. Well nearly all our trampers except a few like me have accepted the new truck. As the drivers told the transport manager where to stick the new trucks. So now most of the agency drivers have them instead. The rumour at first was that the G Units would be moved to day drivers and the trampers were getting Topline Scania’s but i think after the transport manager seen the price difference i dont think will happen. I think this is why alot of the MAN trucks are still there just now. But with another 20 G units arriving anytime between now and august i can see the MAN trucks all going and being replaced by these. Still finding it hard to sleep in these just now. Can’t stand up either. But no point moaning as you get more sense out the brick walls.

Im 6 foot something and I can stand up in a Highline cab, admittedly I was only in it for one night but wouldnt have had a problem in it all week - certainly comfier than a Volvo :open_mouth:
Oh, as for “proper sleepers”, how do the car transporter drivers get on then

Why are you finding it hard to sleep, the bed is the same size as the ones in the Topline versions :open_mouth:

Or are you trying to sleep standing up :unamused:

Typical comments from licence holders, the reason nobody is listening to you is because you’re talking ■■■■■■■■

The beds in the MAN trucks were alot more comfortable. This scania ones is brick solid.

Well I’m going to hold my hands up and say that I didn’t want to imply anything other than working conditions are important and I personally wouldn’t want to live in a car transporter all week - I’m not tall but I like to stand up to have a strip wash in a bowl (more hygenic than driver’s facilities I have seen/used) and put my kecks on!

Anyway, I have had the chance today to look at a G cab Highline and there is room to stand up and the only ‘issue’ would be the narrow bed and lack of decent storage facilities. Still basic though BUT as I’m told often enough 'a job is a job and I should be grateful so I suppose it would have to do.

So as you can see I am a fair man and listen to all opinions even if only mine counts!! :grimacing:
