AVI to VCD....?

Anybody know how to burn an AVI to a CD to create a VCD ?

I know you have to convert the AVI to MPG/MPEG using software such as “TMPGEnc Plus”. I’m getting a lot of conflicting advice about this. For example, I read somewhere that you have to use “VirtualDub” to create an audio file as well as the MPG/MPEG; someone said that once you’d created the MPG/MPEG, you copy it straight over to the CD - tried this and it doesn’t work. So how do you do it ? Got Nero 6.3 Ultra Edition burning software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!!

dont know if you been here but try this link should help you out help me over the years  videohelp.com/convert and it has links to the software you may need

Thanks for your help, Galaxian !

You have everything you need with Nero, you don’t need any extra software.

Start Nero and choose create VCD and choose the avi’s you want on the disc. Nero handles all the conversion that is needed and the resultant discs can be played on most DVD players. I use the same version of Nero to create VCD’s and they work fine.

You only need tmpgenc to convert the AVI to mpeg, provided you have all the correct codecs installed.
The only time you would need to extract the audio is if your pc was underpowered and the CPU couldnt convert the audio at the same time as the video. And there are cases where you may have to extract the audio due to a lip sync problem on the movie, so that you can repair it.
Once you have the mpeg file, simply open nero, choose the vcd template and load the newly made mpeg file and then burn.
You can just load the AVI into nero as neil said, however the difference is alot when converted firstly by tmpgenc as its software specifically for this type of thing, where as nero is a burning tool and should be used as one.
But on the other hand, try it and if its good enough then stick with it !

I tried to do all this caper once before and was never sucessfull. It’s a major headache turning DVDs into mpegs too. I gave up in the end. Good luck though.

Dont bother messing about encoding if you just want to watch the movies/files on your TV - get yourself a DVD/DivX player such as the Yamada 6600 pcreview.co.uk/article-4454.php just got one myself for 58 quid delivered, all you have to do is burn the .avi or .mpg or other straight to cdr or dvd and bang it in the machine. you can burn as many files as you can fit on your media and the machine gives you a file/folder view so just pick the file you want and play it.

It plays MP3’s and regular DVD’s too. well worth the money if like me you dont like watching movies on the PC and dont want the hassle of encoding etc.

Cheers,
Paul.

I second that, ive got a Liteon one, cost me about £60.
However, encoding AVI to whatever format is a piece of ■■■■ really, once you cracked it you will wonder what the fuss was.

Bought a Yamada 6100 DVD player, upgraded the firmware with a download from the German Yamada web site. Plays all file types no problem. They are also sold branded as UMAX.

Also bought a Pacific surround sound system from Asda. Total cost of sound and dvd £140

WINAVI…
Easy and converts to DVD also in 45 mins or less for a 700mb file
blinding results too

Yuo could download some shareware which usually needs to have a registration code then go to www.serials.ws and get the code then you can use it for free!!!..

P.s. a thing comes up and tells you you have to download their software just click no on it 3 times and get the codes ;).

Even better for use in the truck - I just got one of these baby’s last week paperboxes.co.uk/492.html I get 4 or 5 films on One DVD & it plays avi’s, Divx,MP3’s you name it.

Best bit is it has an FM transmitter so you can tune in the Truck stereo to the audio output
