Average speed cameras

Been nabbed at 68mph in the 50 zone over by Leeds in the car, had a letter of intended prosecution, what would I be looking at, fine, points? Both ■■

Save all the speed limit comments and it’s my own fault blah blah

ask for a picture - usually quite clear apparently! At least that blows the theory that average speed cameras don’t work or cop with vehicles changing lanes between cameras :grimacing:

Details will be on your NIP ?

How do you know he changed lanes between cameras, he hasnt said he did.
I think they do work if they are switched on and you remain in same lane as each lane is monitored by linked cameras, switch lanes and only one linked cam has got you.I also dont think that doing 56 in a 50 limit will get you a ticket as the allowed tollerances are set at or above this, but OP was not in a veh limited to 56, he was doing 68 mph. Of course as stated thats only what I think.

To average 68 mph you must have gone through at 65 to 70 mph why

I bet he is one of these drivers who slams on the brakes at each camera not really grasping the meaning of average

Bigger question is will it be 3 points or 6 points i think anything above 15mph over the stated limit is 6 points is it not?

Speed limits, it’s yer own fault, blah, blah… :stuck_out_tongue: hanging’s too good for ye!

6 January 2012 Last updated at 11:36.M62 speed cameras record 1,000% rise in offences The Highways Agency said drivers put themselves and others at risk by ignoring speed limits

The number of drivers caught by speed cameras on part of a motorway in West Yorkshire rose by more than 1,000% in 2011, figures from the West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership reveal.

About 11,000 drivers were caught by average speed cameras at major roadworks on the M62 in 2011, compared with just 1,000 in the previous year.

Roger Wantling from the Highways Agency said the rise was worrying.

He said speeding motorists were putting themselves and other at risk.

The cameras measure speed between two points to make sure drivers are not breaking the average speed limit.

No explanation

They are often set up at major roadworks where temporary speed limits are in place.

Mr Wantling said he could not explain the dramatic rise in the number of drivers ignoring the 50mph speed limit on the M62.

“The number does concern us. These cameras are purely for safety,” he said.

“From the Highways Agency’s point of view, we do not reduce speed limits unless we have to.”

Andrew Howard, head of road safety for the Automobile Association, said it was “very, very surprising” that so many drivers had flouted the law.

"The problem may be that people either get blase about them when they have been there for a long time if they feel they aren’t catching people.

I think they do work if they are switched on and you remain in same lane as each lane is monitored by linked cameras, switch lanes and only one linked cam has got you.

That myth was debunked years ago. When they first came into use they were only approved to monitor a single lane but that was changed so they can cover multiple lanes so changing lanes won’t make a scrap of difference.

I’m assuming the op is a professional driver so the possibility of 6 points has got to be worrying I would think.

That was busted on a static speed camera.

I know you said don’t go on about the speeding etc but 68mph average means you must have been hoofing it at times through them works !!! (not having a go at you)

Them roadworks (all 20 miles of them) have to be the worst and narrowest of lanes I’ve seen for roadworks. IMO trucks should be restricted to the inside lane, the inside lane made wider and the middle lane made wider and a 6.0ft width restriction put in the outer 2 lanes.

On the plus side with most people plodding along at the same 50mph speed, the congestion is a lot less in peak times until you get to the on slip of the m606 if you are heading eastbound, and thats only because the volume of the m62’s 3 lanes of traffic and the m606 and surrounding routes traffic is too much too handle for that junction !

60 squid and 3 lovely points :grimacing:
Thank you for speeding, come again
Use your peep holes next time

Amount of speeding fines gone up by 1000%. So has the accident rate gone up by an equivalent rate?
I think not or they’d be screaming it from the roof tops!

No sympathy from here.

The 50 mph average limit on the M62 is there for a reason, however what they have been doing is moving the camera sites frequently but the whole stretch is now something like 19 miles.
