Colac Victoria 1960’s.My Mothers truck, maybe why I ended up driving !!LOL,First Tipper Truck in the District to have a Telescopic Hoist, purchased from Esler Motors Geelong(Australia)
a very nice picture in its working environment, with the early top of door mounted mirror arms and the cats wisker cab, the later mirror arms came lower down the door and still cracked the pillar so top and bottom mountings were used,
Your mum’s wagon? Did she drive it too?
PS this would go well in the Leylands (and other UK makes) In The Antipodes - OLD TIME LORRIES, COMPANIES AND DRIVERS (INTERACT - Trucknet UK Leyland & other UK trucks in Oz thread, if you’d like to add your post.
Note the mechanical arm on the door. Mandatory before blinkers were approved. Hand outstretched indicated the intention to turn right, with the fingers (note plural ) pointing up,
warning stopping, slowing or turning left. This type were a simple hinge on the door, with a length of rod or wire to change the hand position. They required the window to be open to operate and the driver held them up with their elbow whilst steering and changing gear.
There was a “deluxe” version, often fitted to busses, because the driver sat too far inboard to operate the hinged type. It was telescopic and stayed in the selected position.
