AUD$105,000.00 Per Year Job,55 Hours A Week!

POOR Kid :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: If all he has to look foreward to in life is growing up to look like you Mate

Come and live in our basement Cliff, we’ll get a team truck

he’s 20 and paid Au$450,000 for it

!!! who is he doing?

WHOOOOA :exclamation: :exclamation: I wouldn’t wind my mate Cliff up Gorgeous :exclamation: Philly ain’t too far from Atlanta you know

his kid must have caught a lucky break somewhere is all i’m saying. no, I’m not putting him down. just busting balls, that’s all. you mean to tell me that you brits never josh each other.

Yes, we “josh” each other, but we alway test the water first
Joking is fine but you have to be careful when it comes to close family

it’s a common phrase in these parts, Pat. The phrase probably stems from all the corruption that happens in this area. the good jobs are often handed out to those that “know” somebody one way or the other.

gorgeousload:

he’s 20 and paid Au$450,000 for it

!!! who is he doing?

He’s sub-contracting for his Stepfather’s Multi-million dollar commercial flooring business.( they have exclusive contracts with, among others,Australian K mart, Target, TRU, etc ) My boy was’nt getting on at school, so my ex ( with my permission) and her Husband exercised an option of allowing him to leave school at 14 to train as an apprentice in their ( now ) joint business, after 4 years he became qualified to bid for his own contracts, his first job which took two weeks paid almost AU $20 grand, like me he’s a workaholic and will often put in 12-16 hour days 7 days a week, unlike me, he can save money, and two years later had enough for his own house, which he will share with the same girlfriend he has had since he was 15 ( thats another thing we differ on, I used to get bored with the same girl after 2 weeks, and was ready for the next one!, what’s that saying about the chase is better than the catch  , trouble is I’m still like that

So Yes, I suppose you made a good guess Gorgeousload, he does know the right people, was in the right place, but don’t be mistaken, he earns every single penny through sheer hard work and determination, I know for a fact that is how it is for my Boy,because thats how my Family, my Boy’s Stepdad’s Family and my Boy’s Mothers Family are, sure he got a bit of a leg up, but thats all, he certainly did’nt have it ’ handed’ to him, he served his apprenticeship and was paid the same as the others.

As I’m the kind of bloke that will happily talk about his personal life in an open and honest way ( unlike many people) I thought that, just in case anyone does feel the need to have it explained to them as to why my oldest Son ( and Daughter ) despite being English, have been brought up in Australia, whilst I have been living in the USA, he’s a brief rundown

My ex met her Husband after I left her and met my American wife ( bad move, but could’nt see it at the time ) he’s also English, but was living in Australia, she met him when he visited his sister who was a friend of my ex, they’re relationship blossomed, he took on my kids, and unlike many Stepfathers ( I’ve had two of 'em, and would’nt ■■■■ on either one if they were on fire! :smiling_imp: ) he did a sterling job of raising my two kids and treats them as if they were his own ( much to my shame, he’s been a far better Dad than I ever was  ) Fortunately I have always remained friends with my ex, her Mum & Dad and the rest of her family, and that friendship was extended to the bloke my kids called Dad, me and him get on really well, in fact my ex and him were both in the UK when I went home last Sept, and were in fact at my Mums waiting for me to arrive so we could all got out for a meal. I’ve always had an open invitation to stay with them if I ever made it ’ down under '. Hopefully that will answer any questions some of you nosey buggers may have had!

Ah, this reminds me of another joke:

Q: How can you tell when a trucking recruiter is lying?
A: It’s whenever his lips are moving!!

If I remember, the Australian dollar is worth about 50 cents US. Add to that the fact that recruiters always exaggerate, and I’d bet you that you’ll be lucky to make $40kUS/year, being out 4-5 days at a time. Add to that the common practice of truckies over there being responsible for changing their own tires and the poor state of roadside ammenities in rural Australia, I’d bet you’ll be better off in the states. We have many Aussie drivers coming here to work-that should tell you something…

Too true Alexx on your observation,if the jobs were that great why is there a need to advertise, plus offshore recruiting.
By the way I am heading to USA in a couple of months, any chance of a driving gig?LOL
My brother hasn’t been before and he wants to go straight to Las Vegas and then tour around America but it might be a good idea to visit Vegas last
A good news post about youself and your son Cliff, all the best for his future.Youngest brother is 21 and is doing the same,in the building game.Having a go and doing allright.
AUS $1.00 around US$0.80 lately.
Any major truck shows in June/July?Missed out on MATS and we will be driving mainly around Ca,Az,Tx etc as well as Mexico(Se Habla Esponal! Senorita!).
Anyone been to Pima Air Museum in Tuscon?Or Boeing in Seattle or Wichita?Worth visiting?

If you want to drive over here and do lots of mileage, pull reefer trailers in and out of California. Just make sure you find a company that has decent equipment.

The ad got me going, driving Road Trains in Australia with a maximum of 55 hours working and a max of 2 nights out a week.
Have been in contact with the company and will let you all know of the outcome. The company wants to recruit “Foreigners” As Aussies don’t won’t to work.
Interesting phone "Interview"followed.
Remote location as your base,1,600 KLm’s to any major city(1,000 miles +)rate of pay AUD$26.00 per hour.
Before anyone jumps to it,your accommodation and expenses will be met by you and expenses are HIGH.
$26.00P/hr X 55 hours does not equal $100K +.
Will update as more info comes to hand…
Surely not being sarcastic in that a promise of large $$$$$ in the adverts = [zb]?.
If you cannot have faith in a transport company, who can you believe??

Before any brits think of going and making their fortune … remember that at todays exchange rate an Australian dollar is worth 40p, or $2.49 to the pound :exclamation: So it’s great money for an Aussi or immigrant, but crap for a temp :exclamation:

The way things are going here at the ‘Stormy’ Warby residence, I might be down there this time next year. My eldest Son has just bought his first house in Sydney, he’s 20 and paid Au$450,000 for it!, even if the Au $ is less than half the US $, paying nearly half a million Au $ is still pretty impressive for a 20 yr old, when I was 20, I could’nt afford a garden shed!
Anyway I’ve got an open invitation to come and live with him anytime, we get on really well, we’re more like mates and he’s a Punk Rocker ( same as I was at 20 ) I’ve got photos of me at 20 and photos of him now, put them side by side and you’d think we’re brothers!..especially the ones where we both have Green Mohicans/Mohawks :open_mouth:
