Astran / Middle East Drivers

Hi Newmercman

Yes it was maroon with the silver volvo stripes. It spent years on the italian run.

good old truck but mick only put an old spread axle tandem behind it we were all pulling triaxle by that time me and brooksie took a spare unit out when it went pop noel carried on and i straight barred gary back he was only a kid when we got to the dartford tunnel i paid pulled forward and the barrier came down i pulled young brooksie straight thru it they got us on the other side another bill that didnt get paid that lorry spent more time in carisio the sisters or jayet than on the road lol

I remember the motor, as Keefy says, it always had an old spreadaxle tilt on, looked tidy though.

Am I right in thinking that was who Marmite was on for when he eventually got around to taking his test(s) He had a 112 at the time

The trip i went out to Italy was about 1990 and it was pulling a rental triaxle tilt that had had carbon black in at some point!. I remember leaning out at the peage and getting charged for four axles, then the guy going nuts and trying to stop us as we rolled through on six. Some thieving git liberated the F1220 badge off the door whilst we were sleeping on one of the old roads. Best thing was i was thirteen years old on the ■■■■ and was a week late back to school after the summer holidays because we were weekended and i seem to remember it was an Italian bank holiday as well.

your uncle noal knew how to go on the ■■■■ thats for sure and mark your kinda right marmite drove for big mick for 2 years on ashworth preece when he asked for a week of to do his test leon said what you been hear 2 year with no licance marmite said no i got one but its some one elses he had an old calor gas 281 man then when he passed his test at 21 mick got him an f10 the 112 was mine he is on astrans with me now he just did belguim to jabel ali (dubai) in a 1993 fh but a tidy old thing it had every tacho from new in the cab gota try and sell it now graham help lol

There are lots of pics of British lorries/drivers on these overseas forums, taken and posted by foreign drivers. Here’s another thread:
baumaschinenbilder.de/forum/ … r=0&page=1
This one- 302 pages and counting- is about Eastern Europe, but there’s loads of Turkey on it. The posters seem very well-informed and are often complimentary about us Brits, which is nice.

PS if anyone comes across a photo of an extremely odd “copy” of a Scania LB on the Continental forums, please post it here- I’ve “lost” it and want another look!

Believe it or not he was a mate of mine -I chose truck driving & he sadly chose an academic career. :unamused:

No, I am another one… I was once a trucker (in my former life) but only in west Europe - Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany etc. I changed to an easier life  - programmer/technical consultant. I do miss the truck driving and travelling around. But I don’t miss the hassels, such as waiting for hours (only hours compared to days for some of the lads on here) for a warehouse man to unload me, traffic jams, waiting for ferries etc.
