You seem to have the concepts. Absolutely right to take it slow if you are learning. It is a case of either it is good enough for the assessment or it isn’t. No point in going fast and making a hash of it.
Sometimes it is useful to imagine a cone or something on the ground that you need to get round when you are first aiming for the spot. I do the same as you looking out the window and then at a certain point I switch to using the mirrors. Everybody is different though.
For what it is worth if I’m not feeling too clever, I will look for two spaces together even after a few years doing it. It is a bit like that, sometimes you see things a bit clearer than at other times.
You’ve got the idea. Don’t rush, trying to impress. Every prime mover and trailer combination is slightly different, speed will come naturally with familiarity and practice.
@420_ashwood, I can be strange the way the insurance stipulations work. Sometimes the licence has to be held for a certain length of time. If no work has been completed it of course just means that it has been much longer since the driver has even touched an artic, but there you go.
Looks ok to me mate, nothing wrong with slow and steady.
Crits? If it was me I would have less of my head out of the window and more trust in the mirrors, both of them. Also in the first one I thought you could have started to follow it round a second or so sooner.
You had the advantage of marked bays and, with a tri, very little tail overhang, which otherwise would be a worry re the trailer in the next bay.
I would give you a pass though, or whatever they do these days, in 39 years I never had a test or an assessment so what do I know?
Just remembered, I did have a test when I came to live in France, the Boss drove it to the next village, turned it round on some spare ground and gave me the wheel. I drove back onto the road and, not having had a left hooker for many years, immediately over cooked it turning back onto the road by running the front right wheel up the verge causing the Boss to shout something in French. Still got the job though
Absolutely correct.
Never try to reverse quickly. Try to do it smoothly and you will do a little quicker without trying to.
Saving a few seconds on thousands of reverses will not pay for even a little bit of damage done on a single messed up one.
