Looking at their HGV driver wages they probably were too close to the van drivers wages so they had to either increase HGV or reduce van wages so there you have it

To be fair the uplift was only ever temporary. That’s the issue with bonuses/incentives - great while they last but can be taken away at short notice. Always better to seek better contractual pay.

Very unlikely they will cut hgv rates, they can’t get drivers now as it is & during the last pay negotiation they actually voted to strike but were given a much improved offer so didn’t end up walking out…
On a separate but related theme a large hauler is currently doing the soshal meeja rounds after informing their drivers that a 25% pay cut is imminent. I’ll not name them but W e’ve all S een them about.
The dropping of pay rates will only work if people willingly accept those jobs at those rates. It was only today that gugures showed the labour market is the about the tightest its ever been therefore in theory employers should be competing to recruit from a very small pool and paying rock bottom wint cut it.
Having said that I can’t be alone in noticing pay rates on the likes of indeed seem to have gone south… even the RM Christmas temp gravy train advert is offering the same as I earn in the building next to it.

Pay Rate
£13.46 per hour
This seems quite low for lates.
I think ASDA have differing rates in different areas as well though, so you may get a day rate higher than this in a different area.

I work in the area. I believe that is a “base” rate which will have extras on top depending on type of hours (eg lates, nights, weekend, overtime etc).
Having said that its still on the low side. I’m ten mins down the A5 at DIRFT on for a different supermarket and my base is quite a bit higher than that.

If that’s who I believe it is , then I was under the impression there rrates were comparable to stobarts before they were taken over by culina ( though according to my mates there still on stobart rates of £10.70 or somewhere near that ) , so if that’s the case surely a 25% pay cut would put them under the current minimum wage ?
Nb though mates do speak of £50 pw tramping bonus , the £15 meal allowance ,
Or is this 25% on gross wage ?
Not sure Dozy tbh, it just caught my eye on a Facebook HGV driver group. Like you I too would think that a potential 25% off the hourly rate would put them under minimum wage. I suspect that the management have said that they intend to reduce the wage bill by 25% which could I suppose be achievable by reducing overtime. But that too has a knock on effect.

All the rates should now be the same throughout the company as they were harmonising them in the last pay review
The basic rate is 14.80 plus shift allowances for afternoons and nights.
New starters were paid £1/hr less for first 6 months but i thought they stopped doing that when the real driver shortage hit…
Perhaps they dropped the rate for new starters again.
£13.80 to start. Been in discussion over the last week with my local Asda rdc.
I don’t think I will be taking the offer up, too much of a pay cut.

Well not sure which is your local one but if it’s anything like my local, if you don’t mind banging in the hours you will more than make up for it through overtime which you might not get so much of when on full rate … Yep one of them jobs
16.47 standard
plus 1.47 between 1400 and 2200
plus 3.34 between 2200 and 0600
plus 5.73 overtime over 45hrs
a 14.30 start time on 5x9hr shifts finishing at 23.30 will gross 776 for the first 6 months (pound an hour less taken from the standard rate only) 821 after 6 months.

No idea what work they are doing related to Asda? but they are certainly are not Asda drivers.
Seems an odd time to risk pay cuts though whoever they work for.
Some of the Northern DC’s and the NI one in Larne are Wincanton sites.
