Never thought supermarket wagons would go through many quiet times but saw a Volvo FM Asda wagon on M62 round Goole today with a 40foot container on. Are they doing a bit of general or maybe some of their none food stuff comes in containers?

^^^^^ this I beleive, lot more supermarkets are doing their own inbound stuff, Morrisons with bulkers collecting veg, etc etc. Probably works out cheaper than getting outside hauliers to bring it in, plus they can drop a trailer on the bay and tip it at leisure…no demurrage charges then.
Asda have been doing container work for years. mostly from the docks to thier RDC’s.
Argos have been doing it for a while
Wonder what percentage of Argos’ goods come in by container from Europe/Asia must be pretty high considering we manufacture very little ourselves…
About ten years ago I worked for Securicor on the Dixons contract out of Stevenage - whilst the motors were making store deliveries during the day, the night lads were running containers to and from the docks (mainly Felixstowe, sometimes Southampton). We even had a container park of sorts in Stevenage with a straddle carrier.
Most Asda George products comes in via container with asda tractor unit to Asda George Northampton on Bracmills ind estate.Ive done it

asda and tesco have side by side import centres at teesport and usually average about 30-40 containers a day between them, this does rise significantly closer to xmas, then theres the george containers we deliver from teesport to the asda rdc,s , these usually account for about 20 boxes a day
so yes, they do get quite a few containers
Makes sense, they can also use the skelly trailers to drop containers at the railports if they are into that. We have started collecting stuff from Nobbys Dressingtable in Nuneaton that they previously delivered, takes them about 6 hours to put 26 pallets on a trailer
asda have been doing some of their own conatiner work for a few years, alot more now since the recent haulier of the year went out of business. As for quiet, well, most of the stores served by Bedford are on low forecasts - i only know as i tip the Bedfords - 2 out of 3 loads are mixed with at least anothers stores!
Argos transport operations are still contracted to DHL? i only assume that the 10 plate Mercs are a they seemed to appear as the sle of DHL containers.
