I’m used to spending my life in the inside lane as the Irish and Lithuanians tear past me at warp 60, but even I have to overtake occasionaly and more often that not, it’s Asda I overtake.
Why are their units so slow? Has someone, probably a resident of Planet Health and Safety, got it into their head that having their units running around at 85K’s is safer? Or is it to save a cup of diesel per run?
What ever it is, it’s a stupid idea and if I were driving, I’d find it very frustrating.
they got a payrise and driver started month ago finding out where they can safe more fuel.
now,lower speed is one possibility

filling the truck up with goods so they dont have to send so bloody many out on the road is another way to save fuel. 5 trucks to one store when it would go on 3
jon boy 100:
have you changed your job neil or are you pulling supermarket trailers these days
Yes Jon, I’ve had a major change of job and for the past couple of weeks I see supermarket trailers when I glance in the mirrors. Also as a bonus I am happier at work now than I’ve been for a year or two so it’s all good.

Carl:
good luck to ya mate at least it was your choice and not the banks not an easy decision to make id imagine neil i take me hat off to ya
Cheers. After considering it for a few months the actual decision was easy to be honest. The only regret is I should have done it sooner. Still all those folk back in 1989 who told me I wouldn’t last as an OD were right after all.

jessicas dad:
are you going to tell us the whole story then
Nothing to tell really. I felt it just wasn’t worth doing anymore with rising costs and stagnant, or worse, rates, so I decided it was time to make a change. For the first time in my driving career I’m doing agency work and enjoying every minute of it, well apart from having to drive bloody Scania’s but you can’t have everything. Up until today it had all been for Asda so it was a Scania every day. Today i was in DHL Hatfield and I thought, great something else to drive. What did I get? A Scania Topline.

i do asda out of normanton and it is very steady and ok. they do make sure you get the worst lorrys there is though and save all the best runs for their own drivers but really you have to expect that being on the agency.
at least every penny you earn now is for you and none goes towards the lorry.

Maybe it depends on the depot. Out of Bedford I’ve either had 52 or 54 plate Scania’s and they have all been clean, tidy motors that run well. On my third day I defected the first unit they gave me and they swapped it straight away. As far as the runs go I’ve had a variety, either one hit to say Ipswich or Colchester with rubbish back to the ASC, or a run to say Luton followed by a Corby. I’ve also ran out empty to do a back-haul so plenty of variety and none of it is exactly hard work, yes there is a bit of paperwork and a few rules to follow but there is far worse work out there.
I’ve been on DHL the last two days, and again tomorrow, and that is easy as well so it’s all good at the moment. The agency say they are going to put me into a couple of other places so I’ll have done the assessments and will have options should one or two of them go quiet. The best thing of all is handing the keys back at the end of the shift and walking away, I really wish I had made the move sooner.
