Asda and handing keys in (wigan)

This morning I had the misfortune to have to deliver to ASDA at Ince near wigan,

I turn up with a 40 foot container loaded with hanging garments that had a total weight of 4 tonnes…

Went through the usual booking in and was told to put it on bay 12 drop the trailer and park outside because once the trailer was in the warehouse the shutter doors would be closed until tipped.

Yep no problem so far its not the first time ive had to drop off the trailer…BUT and here is where Health and Safety has gone mad…I was told to hand in the keys… :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Why keys have to be handed in when the trailer is not hooked up to the unit is beyond me…anyone come accross this before?

OH and to top it off it took five hours to tip :laughing: :laughing:

They do the same at Tesco Purfleet when you’ve got dollies on. Drop the trailer on a bay then park opposite the goods-in and hand your keys in. WTF?! Thankfully I’m out of this madness now.

Worst I had was delivering to Expert Logistics in Radcliffe who store the goods for Tesco’s, backed on the bay, handed in the keys and once I was tipped got me notes and the sods had LOST my keys.

4 hours later they found em, just as I was getting the general manager to agree to paying for a new set of locks etc

Never say never, but I’ve no plans to return to it for the foreseeable future at least and to be honest I’m not missing it this time either.

I’ll still be popping in here from time to time though to keep my fans amused :laughing: and dust off my big stirring pot and wooden spoon :laughing: :laughing: :laughing: .

Be warned smee they know the car key trick, and if you are found out not just you, but your whole company might well be barred.

i went in one friday to wigan to releive a driver who was running out of hours on a friday afternoon. he had a 1 oclock booking was still ther at 3.30pm with it.so i went in hitch up to it.went overto good inwards and asked what the problems was with unloading as i had to take over from another driver.they would not give me a reason.so i told then simple if i was not on the bay tipped in a hour the load was going back to the depot as i was out that night on a meal.i had told the boss before hand that i was going in to kick up some trouble.sure enough 10 mins later i was o nthe bay being tipped.the flt driver asked what i had said to the manager so i told him and he agreed with what i said.and i never had my keys in at all at any place when tipping im not goingto sit there for an hour or more with no radio.so in future take ur ignition key off hand in the door key only or have a spare if its all on one key

God, the number of hours wasted at that place, I used to call them non expert logistics. In the end we just did trailer swaps and the following driver would pick up the delivery notes for the previous load, in the end our customer sacked them and used somebody else :slight_smile:
