See a lot of advertisements lately for delivering art and antiques throughout Europe on class 2 and class 1 work offering pretty good money.
would imagine a lot of painting s would fill a artic
or is this just a cover for removals
anyone done this work or is all what it seems
Would imagine its a removal based company, I can’t think of anyone off the top of my head that specialises solely in what you say. Don’t forget, if its high end antiques, you wont necassarily fill a truck. I have done exhibitions for high end auctioneers and only had 5 painting on board, all crated and worth many millions.
Its specialist work but can be good fun and you get to many places off the beaten track. Christies used to regularly have exhibitions in the Casino in Monte Carlo. Its not everyday you deliver there!!
If your interested, enquire and get the lo down from the people with the answers, then make a decision

Well I did 2 antique fairs in Beziers and Avignon last week. Very interesting! Lot’s of Uk class 1 and 2 wagons over there. They all seem very busy. It’s a lot like the removals game, but obviously you have to be more gentle with the freight. A lot of it is brought back here and then container shipped abroad. Hope to be doing more of the same soon. They are a cracking bunch too. Everyone helps everyone.
I have seen this job advertised regularly for about 6 weeks now, maybe the thing that’s putting people off is the part where it states you should be prepared to share your sleeper cab with the porter… You just know your porter’s not gonna be a 20 ish year old female size 12!!
Either the company are really fussy or they just cant fill the position for some reason, I’d want to know the reason.
If its the firm near lhr, they seem to advertise all the time!
Can’t be a good sign.

And you’ll be glad they ain’t…Some of the stuff is massive!

Headley’s Humpers and ARGS were two companies who specialise in antique transport across Europe.
Often away for weeks at a time.
Headleys were there with several vehicles.
Both Hedleys and Args have a background in removals and rely greatly on the everyday moving revenue. Both are well respected and are good at what they do.
Don’t let the fact that they do removals put anyone off. Yes its hard work but you work alongside some good people. Admittedly, you will invariably have to share a cab on nights away but you soon get used to this and your porters quirks
As others above have said, its a good crack and finding a decent driver who is prepared to work is difficult so you have a fair shout at any job going.
its not for me its a mate from the midlands that had replied to it and suited him as 3/4 weeks away so he didn’t need accom in London but as ye said sharing the cab with the porter
he not going to take as seems a lot of hassle loading unloading make sure cargo safe etc so if anyone is looking for that kind of work msg me and I see can i get the link to it it was advertised on gumtree which for my thoughts wouldn’t be the best place to advertise or am I wrong thinking along them lines ?
also meant to ask if only a few paintings etc why send a 18 tonner why not a 3.5 tonner
you would fit some amount of art in a 18 tonner
Because you never know what your client will buy on the day!!!

Precisely, coupled with the fact that when you doing this sort of work, the client really doesn’t care about the difference in running costs As long as the crew is at the right location on time is all they want.
These sorts of clients pay exceptionally well providing the service is what they want. We have clients that name the crew they want and woe betide if the crew is different. When you are carrying cargo, some of it irreplaceable and worth millions, the client needs to know that his goods are in safe hands. If he is happy, he will willingly pay handsomely for this.
This sector is very different to general haulage, you will not lose a client to a competitor just because they are cheaper. You have to mess up before clients look elsewhere.

That’s exactly why I’m aiming to get back into the specialist sector, in my case exhibition work.
I’ve known small companies who have spent nine months building an exhibition stand, then messed it all up at the final hurdle by going for the cheapest transport option, only to find that Vladic or Stanislav have loaded 20 tonnes of groupage on top of their delicate work of art after they collected it and reduced it to matchwood, or that it has turned up two days late for a show that they paid £200,000 to be at etc etc etc. At least, being a fluent English speaker, I can understand the instructions.
They don’t make the same mistake twice.
