Are you kidding?

Are the police right or wrong to prosecute the HGV driver. Iwould say no lorry driver done nothing wrong. Its about 40 seconds in from the start of video.

Typical entitled cyclist with a camera, make a none event into a video and get a driver prosecuted, to be fair the driver should have waited but you will notice the cyclist made no attempt to slow down so he couldn’t have thought it was that dangerous

Surely the police would laugh at the drama queen on the bike.
There was enough room for both of them, if they’d both obayed the law, keeping as far left as possible. Even if there wasn’t enough room for both of them, common sense would say the bike should have backed off, allowing the truck clear passage.
Don’t these pious idiots, claiming to save the planet by cycling, realise they’re creating more pollution with their riding style, forcing motor vehicles to stop, start and crawl, than if they dumped their toys and drove a car. Think of how much less methane there’d be with no one over 18 being allowed to cycle.

The law is no longer keep left for cyclists, they now have more right of way than motor vehicles and are allowed to ride in the centre of the road despite there being a cycle lane there for him to use .

He does get quite a few comments criticising him in the YT comments.
Rightly so IMHO.

Expect him to feature in the Darwin Awards sometime soon.

If they are riding along the centre of the road on the line technically that takes out the required 1.5 metres clearance for all oncoming traffic.
The truth is cyclists are being used as a weapon against drivers to force drivers and vehicles off the roads.
Also bearing in mind that road lane markings are at best often misleading as in this case, or at worse deliberately being removed or allowed to wear away.

To be fair to the driver the contradiction between the marked cycle lane v 1.5 metres clearance is misleading and confusing.Sufficient for a credible defence appeal by a decent brief or even represent himself in court.
But in general on such roads there is no way of being able to pass a parked vehicle v an oncoming cyclist allowing for 1.5 metres clearance even if the cyclist is riding in the gutter.

The self indulgent, prima donnas need a good hard, smack, or an 11R up their back.

So intent on his opportunity for clicks with the emerging lorry that he totally misses seeing the pedestrian; visible like the lorry, from as far back as the pedestrian crossing; who is now crossing the road while looking the wrong way. This is the pedestrain the lorry driver can’t see because of the van and who now arguably causes him to take a longer and wider path. That is a clear hazard perception test failure.

His self centred attitude, impatience and belief that the whole word and its dog should get out of his way are clearly demonstrated from the beginning of the clip.
It won’t be long until he is deservedly bestowed a Darwin Award.

Unless my eyes are decieving me, wasn’t the lorry always clear of the cycle lane, as was the cyclist who should have been in it?

Yeah, it’s a drama queen trying to make something out of nothing.

To add the priority is also reversed if the obstruction is on the cyclist’s side of the road.Worth remembering.

Something out of nothing which will get a driver badly nicked.

As I said these unfit for purpose cycle lane markings are superceded by the 1.5 metres clearance requirement. They only count if separated by posts or raised kerbs.
It’s all a can of worms cyclists can and do ignore their own clearance requirement when it suits them.

I bet Jeremy vine loves this video

Jeremy Vine is just a biased loudmouth.
The problem in this case is the law artificially altering previous speed and road rules to create more nicking opportunities and harsher penalties and creating crimes out of what was ok before.

The real question is why is he cycling on the carriageway when there’s a dedicated cycling lane

What’s the relevance when the ‘cycle lane’ doesn’t provide the required 1.5 meters clearance in either direction ?.
Also even when they are fit for purpose there is no compulsion on cyclists to use them.

There’s no compulsion to look both ways before walking across, but if you get knocked down you will be apportioned a large dose of the blame, if not all of it.

In the current case my view is that the driver did nothing wrong, it is difficult to judge distance on a video but it looks to me that he had plenty of justification to make his move with the cyclist that far away. Freeze the vid at 45 seconds and see what you think.
