Are You A Fatty?

adam277:
I know some people say smoking is more of a drain on the NHS but we tax the hell out of smokers, I wouldn’t be surprised if 70% of the cost of cigarettes is tax.

About 82% according to HM Treasury.

At 39 years old I have the same sized waist I had at 14.

As I’m on a ramble here’s what worked for me so far.

First off losing weight is a marathon not a sprint I don’t believe in flip/flop dieting (fast weight loss programs I mean that eventually fail).

Take a good look at yourself and be brutally honest, yes you Fatty Mcfatfukr.
Look at what your eating and drinking and make a positive change.
I’m not talking alchohol, that comes later. You want to lose weight not be a permanently miserable sober bugger.

To start with just make these changes in the week then eat what you like the weekend. Naturally you will start to make changes the weekend anyway.

Get to know your food, i.e. read the labels. It’s a bit of a con but instead of picking that ready meal that’s got all red flags on salt/sugar/fat/saturated fat content look for green ones.
Better still make your own meals.

For me these are my swaps in the truck:

Snack chicken nuggets/mini scotch eggs/pork pies… Swapped for plum tomatoes.

Normal milk… Swapped for oat milk (very nice)

Snap vans swapped for soups/ sandwich fillers and wholemeal rolls.

One day a week have a Salad instead of an evening meal, bit tough this but Tuna/mackerel salads are really nice.

Fish is very important part of my diet, after all we evolved from the sea so it’s natural.

Try having a non meat day, you may find you ■■■ better as well.
Look at your poos, if your regularly doing chocolate mousse arris explosions this is not good. Should be getting a nice solid clean stool at least once a week, you know the ones where a single sheet of loo roll is all that’s needed to give your winker a shine, think of it as a ‘glory wipe’.

Exercise more, walk a bit further every day and even a bit faster, masterbate at least once every two days (this is vital and yes for ladies as well, to be fair I’m doing enough for all of us). Take it easy though you don’t want to go into the higher calorie demand zone to soon.

Won’t work for everybody, may not work for anybody but is working for me.

Oh and your not going on a bloody diet your just making changes to lose a few pounds.

In my next chapter I will be discussing the importance of not weighing yourself to often and vacuum bag ■■■■.

Come on Dipper tell us about the vacuum bag game , the gimp mask with zips is easy to use

im five foot 14 now weigh 15 1/2 stone can still wear my school tie from when I was 14 years of age being type 2 diabetic helped with the weight loss I was 22 stone last year so a big wake up call regarding loosing weight

I’m fat, about 4stone overweight, but I’ve recently (a week ago) taken steps to get this down. I have reduced my carb intake drastically and I’m not eating anything that came from a factory.

I bought one of those nutribullet things, but I don’t use it for smoothies, I put a load of good nutritious stuff that I don’t like and wouldn’t eat in it and add tomatoes, onions, peppers, different herbs to make an Chinese/Indian/Italian etc flavour and use it as a cooking sauce, dump it in the slow cooker over some meat or fish and let it do its thing all day.

It’s a bit weird having no pasta, rice or spuds, it’s the texture I miss most, but it’s been quite yummy so far and I haven’t been left feeling hungry, time will tell if it does any good.

Now I’ve got to figure out some kind of exercise regime, I don’t want to run a marathon, but it would be nice to see my todger from a standing position.

BMI is an imperfect system to be fair. Putting muscle mass to one side there are a lot of people with a BMI of 27 to even 30/31 who don’t look ‘fat’.
I’m not a doctor though so those people may well be at a greater risk of heart disease etc but to me they look to be at a healthy weight.
In fact I think most truckers who have a bit of a beer belly ( I mean bit) aren’t really fat and are for the most part healthy.

Ice road trucker guy bit overweight but perfectly fine.

Nope, sorry, but IRT guy is fat as well. Obviously so. Half the problem these days is that people don’t actually recognise what a healthy weight looks like any more, because the average across the board is higher.

I’m 5ft 5 and around 9st, but those who know me will confirm that wasn’t always the case - there’s plenty of photographic evidence of when I was a whopping 15st, most of it on my arse! :open_mouth:

I lost the weight when I was still on container work, with very poor mobility thanks to a medical condition which was being aggravated by having to carry the equivalent of a tubby 10-yr old around with me all day. How did I do it? By eating less. I took all the food I was “allowed” for the week with me on a Monday morning, and once it was gone it was gone. I do endurance sport now, but that came later, and I’ve actually gained weight - muscle, my body fat is still around 18% - as a result.

The most interesting thing, however, was the point at which people started asking if I hadn’t lost enough and whether I shouldn’t stop dieting now. I was still borderline obese at the time. Today I’m bang in the middle of the healthy range for my height and am sick to death of people telling me I’m too thin.

And there is the truth of it.

When I left the army I got a bit down in the dumps and put a lot of weight on. I then decided to ‘turn it around’ and took to bodybuilding. I was injecting all sorts of hormones into my body and lowered my bodyfat whilst maintaining my 18stone frame.

Then life slapped me in the face and i took some time out. I spent 6 months living in asia. No steroids and a normal diet. I came back weighing 14 stone at 6ft 1. My mum said I looked ill and she was worried I had cancer.

I’m now back to 16.5 stone and my mum is much happier. However, I’m fat again. Fortunately, my partner doesn’t have the same fat goggles as my mum and is not happy about it. So I am working on this.

But being told you look awful and too thin when you are just healthy isn’t great.

I was 17st 11lb in January 2017 I’m now 13st looking like 8st and still classed just over weight by the Zb BMI system :imp:
But the reason I lost so much weight is because I have coeliac disease (gluten intolerance )
and it stops you absorbing all the nutrients out of food because it passes through to quick :frowning:
just don’t stand down wind of me when I ■■■■ :grimacing:

Think the problem is people have different interpretations of what fat is.
Ye he could lose a few stone but I don’t see him as a massive drain on the NHS or a ticking time bomb in a 44t truck… although statistically he may well be one.
It is a difficult line to tread though. For example there is a huge problem with fat shaming and promoting skinny models that has led a lot of young women into anorexia. Now on the flip side there are 20st+ women doing ‘plus size’ modelling which may well have a similar effect. It seems human nature that we have to go from one extreme too another.

My personal view is I think its fine to be little overweight or skinny but if you start taking it to the Nth degree then you deserve and probably need it to be pointed out; even if you want to class it as bullying.
Poll results if true are interesting though only one guy is willing to class himself as an underweight trucker.

My son has lost quite a bit of weight also body fat due to injury & a few other things he had put weight was feeling low so last year he kicked himself ( Halloween costume ) looked into what fat is then looked & read a lot of science papers on the subject made himself a eating plan & exercise regime to go with it worked it all out had this all on his phone worked out when & how much he could eat was all weighed out

He is much happier now back to being fit still playing American football so back to his peak playing fitness & weight was not always easy did have a few dips but that also helped

Yep he did have help & support from people

last August i thought id had a stroke, my right side went dead on me. ended up in hosp for the night,on the stroke ward

turned out i hadnt had a stroke , [migraneous aura -flu related] but that night was a shocker. ward full of blokes all aged around 50 + who had had a stroke, some worse than others “youll never wear slippers again so stop crying for them” said a heartless nurse. "how many cigarettes?only 18 a day you say, over 35 years can u work out how many that is [blokes in a big nappy laying foetal position] ,tell me tmorrow Simon "

the doc told me plain, “youre overweight”

iv lost 3 stones since, about 1 more to go

corij:
the doc told me plain, “youre overweight”

Docs are pretty much straight to the point on that one, said the same to me once and I’m still fat-ish but I’m a LOT stronger than I was when the doc last said that, hit the gym hard managed 215kg deadlift 125kg bench press and hurt myself squatting…

Still weigh over 16 stone   although I did put 1.5 stone back on after breaking up with the ex

With a BMI of 24.9 I’m bang on the “Healthy Weight” limit, a couple of months ago it would have been 26.5

That Foolsball player Peter Crouch was anorixic according to his BMI, its an old way of working things out. I went to join the army when I was 17 and failed as my BMI was too high yet I was under 12st 7lbs fast forward about 10 years and an army doctor told me they don’t really use BMI now and were phasing it out.

BMI of 30.9, 5 foot 9 and 15 stone. I have chronic kidney disease and now a leaky heart valve.

Gave up cigs 2 years ago and now feel great. Go for a 5 or 6 mile walk every Saturday and Sunday morning which I couldn’t manage year ago.

Cut down on junk (not given it up) and eating better. Still taking 11 tablets a day to reduce BP and hoping to keep dialysis at bay.

Smoking was a huge crux for me as well.
A lot of people who quit smoking end up eating more to try and get the same effect.

I seriously hate smoking now though… I was smoking 20 a day and I noticed the toll on my health as a result and that was only over a few years.

5ft 10" and 15 stone so I’m a fatty. Didn’t help myself tonight after building a breast screening trailer I parked by a takeaway and had a 11" pizza…
