Are you a Christian trucker?

If you saw the same driver parked up for weeks waiting for his/her reload, would you offer them a hamper of food and drink from the supermarket, or the use of your car for a lift to the launderette, if it was you stranded abroad, would you want a random stranger knocking on your cab door, and think they are trying to rob you or the truck when it is left alone?
I once spent Christmas in a French motorway area, never again, even though it was my choice to do the trip, i saw countless cars pulling up, all loaded with presents on their way to nice warm houses with log fires, while i sat in a freezing cab with a dodgy night heater cooking up soup to keep warm, nobody banged on my door.

I’m so Christian I’d put them on my back and walk them across the Channel. That or chuck them a few loaves and fish, they’ll be fed for the next few months then.

Amen

God bless you, have you overnighted at the Lincoln Farm truck stop, i had my truck blessed with Holy water by the owner there.

When I was with my brother in 1990 we were weekended nr Montpelier and during the weekend a guy and ■■■■■■■ roller skates (funny french) asked us if we wanted to join then for dinner, we ended up in there flat with his wife preparing us a feast, the next day along with his wife in his 2cv he took us down the beach for the day…he told us he was learning English and what better practice than 2 English in his flat, top man

if you get lost in rural Spain, and ask directions from a local, you can end up in the bar getting a bit tipsy, and arriving at the re load depot or pack house when they have all gone home for the night, and get invited back to meet the family, and a free meal there too.

always have, always will.
some iranian drivers gave me some apricots, some bulgarians gave me some peaches.
the saying “what goes around comes around” isn’t always related to bad things.

Borispol Ukraine. 3/4 days before Xmas me and another driver got taken to a locals house for a Xmas feast. It was one of the most drunken nights of my life. Great fun. But god what a headache the next day.

Not really christmast thing, but…

Had one drop on saturday morning in La Havre and another delivery was at Monday in Bordeaux, closed over weekend. So I took my time and drove along the coast, visiting St Michel and La Rochelle… Somewhere in between I run out of screenwash, so I stopped on a hard shoulder and added it up. Then I sat on the shoulder with my sandwich and some lady approached me from the orchard that was next to the road asking, if I need some help. I thanked her and said I am all right, I just eat my sandwich as I have plenty of time. She then said “forget the sandwich, join us for our lunch” and I was invited for the lunch in the orchard with her family and friends.

On the other occassion, I was on Hebrides first time, when I did my last delivery in the evening, I asked the farmer where I can eat something, and he answered “there is no food for miles, join us for dinner”.

On a few occasions I was asked by people if I have some British papers with me, so they can practice their English, but I rarely have any.

On another occasion when I was stuck on the border for 3 days, I was extremaly bored, so I was walking along the truck queue, and asking people if they have something to read, and I was given a Polish mag and several Czech papers

I can’t think though, why this normal human behaviour has to be associated with Christianity?

on a couple of occasions when seeing trucks parked up for Xmas I have taken them home for a meal

A few months ago I got severely bogged down in a wet field trying to get rid of some fertilizer. It was late afternoon/evening and the tow hook wouldn’t screw in. It was all rusted up (iveco). Mr Farmer was there with his son. Mrs Farmer eventually showed up in her brand new Discovery, shortly followed by Miss Daughter who was out for a run.

Long story short, the farmer and his son left to get some tools to sort it all out and the farmers wife and daughter (both very very attractive, especially Miss Daughter in her running outfit :sunglasses: ) stayed behind keeping me company.

Mrs farmer explained to me that the men would be busy all evening spreading fertilizer or whatever else you do at farms after the harvest. They invited me to join them in their house for dinner, and offered to nip back and put the heating on in the guest house if I wanted to stay the night? Like the fool I am I respectfully declined and said that I had plenty of food in Hotel Iveco, and that I am pretty used to sleeping in the truck. One of my biggest regrets. Could have been a great night…

I don’t think it has anything to do with religion, just being a decent person.

aye had folk offering a meal and even had a 4pack o beer given to me when parked up in northern Saskatchewan waiting for drops to open the following day.
Have stood a few meals for guys that have been parked up waiting for loads for days.
what goes around comes around!!.

At just over 60 Ive driven roads on three continents. Ive been fed in Africa, Russia as well as Europe. Some whilst awaiting overnight to load, Some by friendly locals. Once after getting to Budapest to be reshipped to Russia. Upon crossing the border in north east Hungary assisted by a member of the British consul I drove around 300k with a Russian guard complete with his weapon. Upon arriving at the factory around 3am in the morning I was tipped at once. Anything we can do for you was the formans question. A shower I asked, No problem, It came with Vodka, the strongest coffee ever, Stew & huge towels, And great people.

Have any Brits ever offered!!! No. To busy getting to somewhere. I have fed many, Given Diesel to many, Lent money to many. Repaid NEVER. In the early days if you stopped with a puncture every Brit and many Dutch stopped. In the Commie bloc just stop and you were asked if you need help.

It has been written here that “what goes round comes round” In the old days yes. Now Im not so sure. Do I help a stranded trucker, of course as Its in my blood to do it.

Not xmas related but was weekended in Andorra parked up in a ski lift car park (August so closed for the summer) English guy comes over for a chat turns out he owns a small hotel nearby. Invited me to dinner that evening use of a room for a shower had a great night and all he would accept was a box of Pg tips

One night In the late '90’s while I was on for Dentressangle, I’d parked overnight on an Industrial estate In Coventry. My sister still lived there at that time & I’d spent the night at her house with her Husband & kid’s…

On returning to the truck the next day, I was quite surprised to find a carrier-bag full of fruit & a large sandwich-box full of Cheese sandwiches which had been attached to the door handle…

Inside the bag was a hand-written note saying " Thought you could do with these. Cheers Brian" , but with no other contact details so I was never able to find out who he was or where he lived…

Very generous(spelling) of the guy…
