Are my eating habbits causing harm?

Hey folks. I’m 23, 5ft9, 8 stone 3 and a 28" waist

I am terrible at eating properly. The problem is, I am rarely hungry. I can quite easily go all day with as litte as one pie or something. An example would be…

Get up, start work, drive for 4 hours with a can of coke, cup of tea at break time, drive more, go home, laze around then go to chinese for dinner and only have rice and sauce. A full meal wold be too much for me and I would throw it away. That’s pretty much me all working week. The odd day I will also have a small meal like chips at lunch time as well as the evening meal of either chinese or chippy. The problem is I can feel fine for ages but then I’ll go on a right downer and feel awfull. Getting up in the morning is torture and it always takes me ages to waken up properly. I couldn’t bare eating first thing in the morning. I guess I’ve done this for so many years that I’m stuck in this habbit. I find drinking sugary tea and drinks like lucozade helps to give me wee boosts of power.

I know it’s a terrible way to live but do you think it’s doing any damage?

im not a doctor but believe that you may be doing some underlying damage to your body. i am in no way whatsoever a dietician (im a fat ■■■■■■■■ but i agree with the need to eat fruit and veg, you cant live on takeaways all the time, this will be the reason sometimes you find it very hard to get out of bed due to lack of energy. fruit is a fantastic source of energy.

try eating grapes or something throughout the day and see how much energy you have.

I’m with Lee on this one, i too am a fat ■■■■, but I do eat a fairly balanced diet with fruit and veg. Filling your body with loads of sugar from drinks and tea isn’t healthy seeing as you use it as a pick me up, that shows you don’t have enough balance with what you get from your food, the peaks and troughs you get, i imagine will get worse with time and you’ll start relying on more sugary drinks to get you peaking again, and that isn’t healthy.

Saying that if I was only 8 stone 3 and a 28" waist from eating takeaway I’d be ■■■■■■■ happy, but as Lee said try getting some fruit into your diet, or carrot sticks with a dip are nice to munch on.

Let us know how you get on

You are living off stimulants (sugar, coffee, lucozade etc.) which might explain why you do not feel hungry a lot of the time but then have big crashes.
Also you are eating take aways but the carbs you are getting getting from these are inconsistant and won’t be great for you.
Try and eat breakfast as it is the most important meal of the day, try oats or shreaded wheat as they are high in carbs.
Also try eating carbs like pasta or a baked potato instead of drinking sugary carbs like lucozade.
Once you start eating properly you will find it is not as hard to get up in the mornings, you are struggling now because your body has no energy.
If you struggle to eat get some meal replacement shakes but dont replace all your meals with them you still need to eat proper food.

The trouble with Chinese food is hidden fats, that rise the trygliceride blood fat lipid levels.High cholestrol. It is the cheap oils they cook with,KFC have not replaced their cooking oils with a healthier one to fry the chicken.Pasta with some meat at night is quick and easy to cook, and save money buying Chinese food.A blood “fasting” test is in order, eat nothing the night before, the nurse will do the test. Not a doctor. To measure the cholestrol HDL and LPL levels.

I would suggest a visit to your GP as this sounds like a perception issue rather than a physical one.

Blimey, I have the opposite problem. :frowning: Weight goes on and stays on too easy, I am losing weight very gradually now at the moment, still a struggle though.

Thanks for all the replies, folks.

So what you’re saying is, although I’m not overweight in the slightest, I may have high cholestrol?

Thanks again,

It seemed to me like you were shying away from food - I’m not saying you are annorexic but it doess seem ‘similar’ in the outlook from what you said - I’m no expert on this sort of thing which is why I suggested seeing your GP to see if perhaps your mind was telling your stomach something…

Some peolpe need very little to eat and do well out of it but it was when you said that the lack of food was causing you problems that sparked an ‘alert’.

I’m one of those ‘lucky’ beggars - 6’ 3", eat what I like and as much as I wanted and for many years only 10 stone until I reached about 40 when I put on weight - I am now a massive 13 stone - WOW!!!
I still have a very high metabolic rate - perhaps too high - eat at midday and about tea time it’s gone through my system !! - I won’t go into too much detail on the last bit

oh ok.

I need very little for me to be full up. Just the way it’s always been. I went through a bit of a bad spell a few years ago for a while where I was eating virtually nothing. One single meal ( a chinky in a silver tray at work ) a day and that was it. Even then I would eat virtually none of it. People started to notice I was looking rough 24/7 so I kinda booted myself up the arse and forced myself to eat more.

I think working different times all the time with shift work on buses caused a lot of it as there was never any regular set time to have dinner.

Now that I’m off distance and back on buses it’s kinda like it used to be. Eating junk never the same time twice etc…

i go through phases. sometimes i eat like a pig, other times i struggle to eat a proper meal. i dont know much about healthy eating but if you always struggle to eat a full meal, might i suggest eating smaller amounts but more often? or physical activity that will give you an appetite. getting back on the wagons and doing a bit of handball always made me look for a burger van around lunchtime. with agency work, regular mealtimes are normally out of the question so try taking sandwiches so you can eat when you get hungry rather than trying to eat when you think its a normally recognised mealtime. in this job, lunchtime can be 3am! forget the clock. your stomach will tell you when its time for lunch.

I was wondering if I could tempt you with a little breakfast to get your taste buds going…

I think you must be held together by E numbers. I’m not going to preach as I’m held together by chocolate, but at least in between the Mars bars I get some good stuff down me.

Get rid of any idea about portion size, you don’t have to have a huge meal. Secondly, I can’t work out where you are getting any protein from - cheese, eggs, meat, fish. There is protein in limited amounts in stuff like broccoli, but you ain’t getting any of that either. Basically you are living on sugar and carbs - not a lot of difference between the two.

Could you mange something like a single boiled egg for breakfast - just trying to think of something that is simple to cook, fairly portable and not too filling.

Have a work with your health practice, they usually have a dietician there (they’re a notch above nutrionists and nutritional therapists in terms of education) and explain to them what you’ve said here and see if you can get some practical answers. Don’t try and do everything at once, just make realistic changes.

Please try and do something about your eating habits; some people will eat like you and live to 90, same as the folks who smoke 60 a day and see 90, but they are in the minority.

Well,In your Age produces the Body lots of Hormons. Not only ■■■■■■. Even Diabetes comes from low Hormon Household.
If you feel well it’s not so bad.Otherwise go eating to Mum or Girlfriend,as they would see what you eat and whats missing. I’m sure you talked with your Doc about that. They also have to earn Money. So just book an Appointment
