Anyone Worked for Iceland Enfield?

Hi everyone,I am currently working five nights a week, trunking out of Chelmsford. The job is fine.I like it,but I am getting a bit peeved with the time it is taking me to get to work.I leave Cheshunt,Herts around 4pm and sometimes don’t arrive at Chelmsford for my 5pm start time until around 5:20 pm.I am sick of getting stuck on the poxy M25,although to be fair it has been good this week. There is also the cost of petrol to the tune of 30 quid a week.

I have noticed Iceland Enfield which is 5 mins down the road from me,are looking for drivers. They have put an advert on the back of their lorries.I am just wondering if anybody has worked for them and knows what their pay and conditions are. Please could you let me know. The only thing i do know is that they are on a 4 day rolling week.

Also, can anybody tell me what the actual job is like? I have noticed they use a big variation in the size of their trailers, and I suppose some stores are pavement deliveries which are a real pain.

I would be grateful for any info, many thanks,Glenn.

Icelands Glenn… i haven’t heard many good things from drivers and i have worked around Brimsdown for 15 years. some of our Warehouse guys went there when they first opened, and came back to a lower paid job saying the conditions and organisational skills where appauling. but then that may have been the “Opening teething problems”. you’d be better off trying Waltham Abbey Sainsbury’s. they are very
well organised down there.

and why are you using the 25 to get to chelmsford… i am presuming you are working around Widford est?? get yourself away from the 25 and go out thru Nazeing and Harlow, and off down the A414 past North Weald, and Ongar to Chelmsford mate, i use it alot, and Harlow to Chelmsford takes about 20 mins even in the Rush Hour.

When I worked for Fiege-Merlin on the Sainsbury contract out of Hoddesdon several of our drivers went down to Iceland’s information day to see what it was all about, and a few left to go there. Within a month most of them had come back as the work was fairly hard graft and some of the places you tipped were a nightmare. Having said that I’m talking about when it first opened in 99/00 but I’d have to agree that Sainsbury (in my experience at least) was a better firm as far as driving conditions are concerned (even the legendary Dave Young once worked there, many years ago!) I’d recommend you try J.S if you’re looking for something new - I even noticed the other day that all the old Fodens have been replaced by new FM Globies, so now not only do you get a decent wage but tidy kit as well. Could be worse …

Craig

Not worked for Iceland at Enfield Craig, but tipped there many times and it’s a pain in the posterior(spelling?) Four hours to tip 2 pallets.
Of no relevance to your question craig, but I saw “ICELAND ENFIELD” and just had to have a moan!! :unamused:
