Anyone on 80%pay?

Is anyone on this?
As got a feeling were Gona be shutting up.
As literally no work tomorrow. Been told come in at 8 am.
Have heard work claim it then pay it to us

How long does it take. As if honest don’t fully trust where I work.

I reckon I can cope with savings for 8 weeks or so.
But if worst happens could I join an agency do a few days here and there if anything’s going.

It’s supposed to be the other way round, that they pay it and then claim it but you can bet at a lot of places it’ll work how you’ve said. Like you I’m lucky enough to have savings to cover taking the time off if push came to shove, good job because it could be well into April before the payments start to go out.

As for agencies, don’t think unless you live where there’s RDCs you’ll get much joy as they’ll have a lot of their existing drivers wanting work because the same companies people like yourself have come from have shut down.

It’s not actually up and running yet, so no one is on it.

My old mans firn shut the gates on monday.

Hes been told hel be in 80% pay from next wee as hes a weeks lie time.

Hes nervous he might not see the money in bank but as stated its the employer to pay then claim back at a later date.

I reckon if his boss gets an email confirming the government will honour this then im sure his gaffer wont hesitate to use his own cash for a bit.

I am,got an email from work today 80% of basic for a period of up to 12 weeks

Yes that’s technically true but employers can do it now and get the money back on the grounds they front the 80% and the government refund those payments back to the employer when it’s up and running.

Some of the delays is that there is no mechanism for HMRC to reverse the payment mechanism (change it to money going out rather than coming in) and it also needs to he structured as a grant to an employee so no Tax or NI should be paid.

This 80% thing has been made even more complicated to get - than the hated Tory Universal Credit thing.

A better way to have done it - would be to compare last year’s monthly pay from the P60 end of tax year - to THIS year’s…

If HMRC can know within days if you are doing a second job or not, and tax extra accordingly - then why can’t they also detect when one’s income has collapsed, and make what amounts to an automatic “tax credit type payment” based on the amount of the collapse?

So if you were taking home £2500per month for instance, and at the end of March you take home £500 because you are now on a “retainer” - then you get 80% of that drop, which would be £1600 to bring your month-end pay back upto £2100 in total, slightly more than 80% - despite there being that “retainer” money there…

If your income fell from £2500 to zero on the other hand, then the person would have to sign on for benefits in the normal way, as they no longer have a job clearly, and should not see their former employer get a grant that may well never be passed onto the employee, now laid off… The moral hazard here is HUGE!

HMRC could work all this out - the same way they work out if you owe back taxes or not…
NO need for “Form Filling”, NO need for “Means Testing” and NO having to turn up in person at some office - during the lockdown!

FFS what are these idiots at Whitehall thinking?
People need that money for the end of THIS month - not the bloody end of Summer, or the end of this year!!

Did you pay national insurance payments?

If your employed and on the 80% retention scheme you can’t work for anyone else (or an agency). It’s a little bit like being on gardening leave.

This ^. The HMRC have said that they’ll be specifically watching for any moonlighting and they’ll spot it in 2 seconds from your NIC when the agency you’re moonlighting for pays you. Trying to get one over on the HMRC will not end well for you.

My firm rung yesterday to confirm that’s it for now, they will get back in touch when ready. Last thing on phone was warning do not work for anyone else as payments will stop immediately.

And they could give you the full Tic Tac with P45 to boot as its breach of your contract

50% of our drivers are being furloughed. We’re getting 100% basic pay though as the company are topping up the other 20% on top of the gov 80% scheme. We’ve been told this will likely be the case until the end of May.

Been told that we cannot do any other work while this is the case. We’re getting 100% anyway so why bother.

THey finally released the full guidance for it last night. You can work for another employer but still get paid the 80% from your main employer as it is done on an employer by employer basis.

If your employee has more than one job

If your employee has more than one employer they can be furloughed for each job. Each job is separate, and the cap applies to each employer individually.
