Anyone know anything about JME Transport in M/cr?

Bosses, trucks, shifts, pay or anything else?

I’d be grateful for anything known.

Thanks.

I just applied for a job in Blackburn and was turned down because I haven’t driven a truck for at least 180 days in the last 2 years (insurance problem) :frowning: (I just got my class 1 back after 4 years).
I went to a local agency and they wanted me to be self-employed and would not entertain anything other than signing up with some umbrella company :open_mouth: I didn’t pursue that.

Driven for them out of Hull docks years ago and it was a good job. Mate of mine has been on agency with them in the last few months. Says job has changed from what it used to be (used to be a lot of Jewson Timber) but still steady eddie. Biggest problem in Hull at least is a shortage of ratchet straps.

Thanks for that Conor, I think it’s different work over there from Manchester but I’ll find out more tomorrow.

Went for a visit today and I start Monday
Pay is reasonable, it seems. Trucks are mostly late model MAN’s together with a few Merc Actroses (or at least the trucks I saw  )
Secure site and parking for cars.
They’re in the old Eaton gearbox factory in Walkden

All good fun I hope.

I’m sure we don’t need to tell you to use plenty of ratchets when carrying timber

Indeed although I think the initial outgoing loads will be paper or finished paper goods.
I’ve carried timber and timber products before and I try to have 8 ratchet straps - although that can be a problem in some places.
One of the first jobs in the cab will be to see how much equipment there is in its side pods.

most paper products are timber, but as there are no gaps its a lot heavier, also changing it from timber to paper means it is smoother and will move a lot more, you will need more than 8 straps on a full load of paper

Finished goods being things like kitchen towels on pallets. Not sure a ratchet strap would go down well with the suppliers.
I’ve carried pulp out of Sunderland docks with one ratchet strap across the back lift with no problems.
I’ve carried euro pallets of paper from Medway and only had to strap the front few doubled up and nothing moved.
I’ve carried bales of paper from all over the place and only used roof straps and nothing’s ever moved.
I’ve carried chipboard from Eggers and Kronospan and as hard as I’ve tightened all 8 straps some have moved a few inches on the second packs.
I’ve carried timber packs from docks all over the place and finished timber products too. So far, so good.
