Anyone got a HGV SatNav?

A while ago I found a SatNav designed for HGV drivers with all the whistles and bells but the down side was £499 which I thought was a bit steep after all car SatNavs can be got for £99 nowadays.
Hmmm just found another it’s a pronav and it’s £200 better price but are they worth it ?

Get the car nav and then Pirate Bay all the weight limits bridge heights speed cams and latest maps. Allegedly works a treat if you get the correct ones

can you get bridge heights and weight limits for a tomtom sat nav  if so which tomtom sat nav is the best one to buy to accommadate these downloads.

Yeah get you on that only thing I found with this idea was when I tried it on my PPC using TomTom the low bridges were POI and I could set limit to max of about 500 yds so by the time you new about a low bridge you were looking at it.
These HGV SatNav are supose to route you depending on heights and weights and the last one I looked at had cams as well but 200 dabs to a poor trucker is a lot at present.

If you have a low bridge POI set on tomtom, you can set it up to 9999 yards on the warning.

Mine is set at five miles, which is 8800 yards.

As for 7.5t limits, I would say there’s far too many to have as a POI set. I have been trying to do it with the mapshare function and set them as closed roads if TT insists on trying to take you down them but its hard to remember them when you come to a stop.

Its a shame there isn’t an online map with them or that they aren’t marked on A-Z maps.

Now that is interesting. Are they on the map itself or as a point of interest type file? I mean, can you turn it on / off like a POI or is it a feature in the menu’s?

This could save some peeps a whole load of wonga,

They are built into the map itself, the map is different from the normal tomtom maps as it contains low bridges, weight limits and narrow roads.
You enter your vehicle dimensions into the tomtom and then every address you enter the tomtom will create a route which avoids places your truck cannot go.
If you have a tomtom and interested in installing it pm me.

I use the Snooper Syrius Proline Truckmate and find it really useful. The problem with using TomTom with bridge heights and weight limits is that it will not route you to avoid them, only warn you as you approach them. I think that if you are driving for a living it is better to get the right tool for the job rather than bodge up something designed for another use.

I had a pronav before but some Welsh kid nicked it out of the cab whilst I was showing an agency numpty how to open the rear doors :unamused: , I didnt chase him too hard as it wasnt really worth the £200, another £120 more and the snooper is excellent (still check it against my big print truckers atlas though).

I put tom tom truck on my XL and it works a treat though its not 100% it will be as good as anything on the market imo.

There are sites that explain how to do this and some tom tom systems are easier to crack than others and some can fit more options than others.

Tom Tom one and xl are probably the least truck friendly but you get all the options for your height, axle weights, speed and can change from Car, Bus, Lorry etc.

If you have a basic understanding of computers you should be able to follow the guides but if not you would be as well trying brain surgery as its probably easier to learn.

Google truck version 815.2112 and find the sites yourself as a thread in the computer forum with links to sites was removed for obvious reasons but there is a thread still in the forum which may be of help.

It cost me about £8 to buy a new sd card and that was it.

i thought the sd card with all the truck stuff on for the tom tom was about £250 or something like that.hope im wrong

If thats directed at me then you miss the point, if you have a tom tom then you go to a forum that explains how to crack navcores and maps and find tom tom truck and follow the somewhat complex instructions though after you do it you find its not as complex as it seems.

The sites have too bloody much info. and you can get bogged down a bit trying to find how to do your version.

Once you get the info. you may need to buy a blank sd card to put your new navcore and map onto.

Think theres a site that does it on certain tom toms on behalf of tom tom for about £50.

yes it was directed at you. i had only done some brief research not really looked at it too much because my garmin on lorry mode hasn’t put me wrong yet. (i only usually drive little lorries). all that you said there is gobledygook to me im afraid. i would rather just buy a card with all that stuff on and wondered if that was possible?

If its for a tom tom and you want a pre installed system then its about £380 on this site.
hgvsolutions.com/sales_tomtom.htm

If you fit pro cab plus yourself its about £50 or about £25 to get the basic poi`s from the same site.

I never dealt with them myself so cant vouch for them but I assume they explain clearly how to do this yourself and give you the software.

I know nothing about Garmin but it sounds like its doing you o/k and if it isn`t broke.

i got a pronav 3 days ago and it was telling me that the start position was not avalible when i was on the m6 so i sent it back today you cant beat tom tom.

It did that to me (just bought one a couple days ago). When you click ‘ok’, it picks up the route anyway and sends you on the way. Thought it was taking too long to load the map, but guess it’s a glitch cause it still sent me on my way…

To be honest I only use a 50 quid Binatone so i HAVE to keep a look out for road signs and low bridges, besides a 7.5t weight limit really means “any twin axle rigid” in real life  so I probably don’t want to be re-routed.

get a tomtom 5■■ upwards and put the truck maps on it yourself if you can’t there’s plenty of people around that’ll help you out.

The internet is the worlds biggest source of FREE resources … so why pay??

can you get bridge heights and weight limits for a tomtom sat nav

look here, theyre free [trucknav.napalmfiles.com/](http://trucknav.napalmfiles.com/) hights in 1" increments from 10ft - 16ft 9" any TT will accomodate these files, comprehensive instructions are also included in the downloads. Ive been using them for ages

cgi.ebay.co.uk/Garmin-StreetPilo … 286.c0.m14
and spend the rest of the money you`d have spent on another system on yourself or other cab FARKLES
also anyone who uses RAM ball mounts for their sat nav, may be interested in cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? … K:MEWAX:IT
as an alternative to a screen mount, these will fit onto the cab door handrails
