Over 20 years experience, clean licence, hgv 1 anyone know of any companies around Northampton area that I can approach for couple of days a week. I don’t want people to just name random companies they know who operate out of Northampton I am looking for companies that actively take on part time drivers. Everyone I’ve seen wants ridiculous 5 day shifts and those silly 60 plus hour weeks. I just like a couple of days to keep the wolf from the door, and not agency. I know they’re about as I’ve done it for 15 years but made redundant. Seems nowadays there’s too many drivers and not enough jobs as everywhere I approach don’t take part time. A part time driver is better than no driver during this driver shortage (allegedly) 
You’re right, there’s far more drivers than there are vacancies, “driver shortage” is just a myth pedalled by those who aren’t hands-on in the industry. This might be a case where you’d be better off going round the doors, or you could try agency work, but they are notorious for not listening when you tell them you only want part-time or other non-standard work patterns

Agencies peddle the driver shortage lies by advertising fake jobs to get drivers to sign up. It makes it look like there’s tons of work. There isn’t. Theres lots of tramping jobs round here but I stopped doing that game 15 years ago. Life’s to short for that
I know you said not agency but I think that may be your best option, at-least until you can find direct part time work.
Yusen have two vacancies on indeed specifically for part time drivers. Both based in Northampton. Class 2 job at 16ph and a class 1 advertised at 18ph.

That’s the other thing. It takes ages to get a job now. Gone are the days of jacking in on a Friday and back in with someone else on monday
Or even falling out with the yard foreman in the morning, as I did with K & M, walking off the job and starting in the afternoon with Bunny Hill Motors.
