Is this hard physical work? I understand there will be a dirty job but wasn’t sure if I could stick the physical aspects.
I have done road sweeping before and only physical bit was washing the vehicle and the back out after tipping.

I’ve done gully cleaning on days for a Council and later on, on nights under TM for a highways company.
I wouldn’t say it’s a smelly job, it’s mostly gray water and most gullies are cleaned yearly.
As for being hard work, depends where you are working. Residential gully lids are lighter and easier to lift.
A roads and some Ind. Est. have heavier lids. If they are too heavy get your oppo to help.
Gully tankers have a hydraulic lid lifter but most are ■■■■■■
The boom isn’t heavy, it’s hydraulic.
