Funny how the Nissan,Toyota,Honda and Mazda car manufacturers don’t think the same? Are the Japanese management a soft touch then?

Wether they do or don’t think the same is neither here nor there. They make 'em here as its cheaper than transporting them

Is that why Ford have moved to Turkey then? Because it’s cheaper there? Nowt to do with the £80 million of taxpayers money the got from the EU in their back pocket despite not being members of the EU? I’m confused Mike!

I’d imagine making them cheaper in Turkey, getting a grant as you mentioned and being closer to more of their customers is a no brainer. Nothing to be confused about.

Cost is an issue in any business obviously but it’s far from being the only factor. The Japanese are rightly proud of the products their factories put out with particular emphasis on build quality and reliability and yet they choose to produce here with the lazy British worker. And how do they export to other countries across the water without transporting them to final destination?
Why do people in this country persist in putting down their own? I can understand management using that approach although I have no doubt that negativity usually works against them but they refuse to see it. For the life of me I don’t understand this attitude from fellow British workers towards each other.

You might of read something in my post that wasn’t there. I don’t put British workers down. We make cars as good as anyone. As you say, build quality is a factor. And everytime i went into Bently at Crewe i marvelled at the skill of the guys fitting the ready made gearboxes, axles etc that came pre assembled from Europe into Britains finest marques. Thats skill !!

Dunno… I’ve heard that runour, the Rover’s tragedy was the really bad quality, even the German managers could not do anything with it… :frowning:

I was wondering if anyone can let me know what’s happening at Stobarts Goole as my shifts keep getting cancelled ,my agency E### just says everyone is in the same boat ,however another agency advised me that my agency had lost the contract so just wanted some info as i have no idea what’s going on.

cheers

What agency are you with? if you like working there go to another agency there must be 15 looking for drivers for Goole.

hello mate

I’m with e1ew but I’m going to sign on with zest on Friday

Cheers

I have noticed that pay seems to be going up so you need to check who’s paying the most

hey steve. you do realise that signing with a different agency you wont be “able” to be booked at the same depot for 12 weeks IIRC. Its a unwritten rule so agencies don`t “poach” other drivers, Especially if you mostly drive for same company/depot. the only time around this “rule” is if the agency is blacklisted or banned by the company for whatever reason. I was told this by ops at goole when i looked to changing agency (as they was offering more cash lol) Your best bet before signing to Zest (zest are currently tier 1 at goole but that changes regulary) is to speak with the Ops desk before changing agency not sure zest are getting very many drivers in atm either.

Honestly tho i think its generally just very quiet there atm after the xmas period. Same every year. Not worked for the last 2 weeks myself but the agency list of names can be counted on 1 hand for the morning starts 00:00 to 12:00 every day for the previous week, so lots of agency drivers are in the same position as yourself.

Thanks
I have not worked there for nearly 6 weeks now and I spoke to Stobarts and they advised me I can change agency after 8 weeks of not working at Stobarts so can start on 17/2.Really appreciate information though so thank you very much . Its quite everywhere especially in hull ,normally end of January jobs start coming in well in London that was the case . what do mean by tier 1

Cheers

Think it the Stobarts thing believe it’s the same at Widnes as well got a mate on the shunt there and they get thought loads of drivers

I’ve done a couple of shifts there through agency. To be fair, the job itself is not that bad. Might not be everyones cup of tea.
The biggest problem at Widnes is some (one in particular) desk jockey going out of her way to make life awkward.

Despite stating countless times “I’m new”, “I’m not sure what I’m doing” you don’t get told anything, just told off for not doing it.

First night I got back, had to find out from another driver how the fuel system works, Then seeing the queue for the RSU and what hours I had left I was advised to drop the trailer and let them know in the office.

“Did you drop the trailer■■? Your supposed to tip it. What time did you start?? You’ve ONLY done 13 hours!!!”
I was also threatened with being reported to the agency…crack on love, I was following instructions.

Next time I was in, wasn’t told my run was ready…was told off for not going out on the run.
Found my trailer, had a salvo lock on. Was chatting to another driver whilst waiting for shunter to come and unlock it. Was bollocked for chatting…was told I should be already out since this was a “hot” load!! her face was a picture when I pointed to the salvo lock.

With attitudes like this, is it any wonder drivers don’t stick around.

Oh, and hows this for a shift. Leave Widnes…Tip store at Rochdale. Head to Goole, drop trailer, tip store at Cleethorpes, pick up your trailer from Goole, take it back to Widnes
