Any English drivers left at Stobrats?

My ex missus was (is) a goolie, and all in the name of love I endured over 12 long yrs in that neck of the woods.

Absolute dump of a place - I believe it was twinned with Mordor. The fodgies can have it!

A lot of wind turbine components rolled out of there, and I heard that a lot of their container work had been transferred more recently to Hull (another picturesque Northern paradise).

OP it’s spelt Stobart! There’s no S on the end and it’s not Stobrats!

for real■■?

While working at RB (probably 07-08)

I’m not a fan of mass migration or whatever it’s called, but there’s good and bad where ever you go.

It’s not about good and bad Bruce. It’s simply the economics of it. Free movement of labour in the EU suits the bosses as they have greater access to cheap labour. It suits the migrants coming from a poorer economy as they can be very considerably better off in many ways. Can’t blame them for taking advantage. It’s us mugs who are born and raised here getting the short straw. And I don’t buy it and I never will that they are better workers having seen with my own eyes for long enough but again it suits the bosses to mask their greed by complaining about the quality of the British worker. Funny how the Nissan,Toyota,Honda and Mazda car manufacturers don’t think the same? Are the Japanese management a soft touch then?

stupidn00b:
hmmm i work outta goole pretty regular and know alot of drivers there. can actually only think of 3 foriegn drivers on books there. Karol, Domonik and Valdis. the rest are British. Cant say the same for the foriegners whom come in from other depots tho :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe the OP requires a Yorkshire to english translator? dus thi know wat i means me told mucka. an for them moanin bout the “heavy” cages. man up thi bunch o" pansies. oh [zb] that 500Kg of unbalanced whiskey is too heavy. mebbe tha`ll break a sweat moving such heavy a load on a wheeled cage!!!

do agree with the comments of filthy trailers tho. quite a few are mankie but that all adds to the fun sliding sidways on a 30 degree slope to starboard at some express`s haha

while fools like you do the job,Tesco will carry on regardless.

Wether they do or don’t think the same is neither here nor there. They make 'em here as its cheaper than transporting them.

Its the reverse of the situation where Jaguar Landrover products are so popular in Asia that rather than increasing output to keep up they’ve got the Asians to"help out"building them.

Last time I went in there they tried to stich me up with 12 hours on my last shift, told her no can do,she told me to get truck and go back to mydepot, haven’t been in there since, and   don’t miss it

Is that why Ford have moved to Turkey then? Because it’s cheaper there? Nowt to do with the £80 million of taxpayers money the got from the EU in their back pocket despite not being members of the EU? I’m confused Mike!
Cost is an issue in any business obviously but it’s far from being the only factor. The Japanese are rightly proud of the products their factories put out with particular emphasis on build quality and reliability and yet they choose to produce here with the lazy British worker. And how do they export to other countries across the water without transporting them to final destination?
Why do people in this country persist in putting down their own? I can understand management using that approach although I have no doubt that negativity usually works against them but they refuse to see it. For the life of me I don’t understand this attitude from fellow British workers towards each other.

To pick up the original thread, I worked for one multinational last year for a few months. Out of 6 drivers I was the only Brit. The others consisted of a Bulgarian, nice fella who I got on well with. A Spaniard, young guy really nice lad. A Lithuanian, bit of a ■■■■ as was the Hungarian. Portugese fella who was quiet so hadn’t been able to form an opinion. So some good, some bad as with any other nation in the world I’d bet even the Brits! The biggest problem with the job was the depot manager, no surprise there then!

Could be that most of the shifts require every weekend they are advertising now Thursday to Monday and Wednesday to Sunday, surely if a rota were in place more drivers would stay due to having more weekends off.
I’d do shifts but to do every weekend unless your single or your wife works weekends aswell is a no no for a lot of drivers…

had the misfortune to do some traction for stobrats at goole recently. admittedly first time in there, didnt know what to expect but you just crack on best you can. shunters were a bit too busy with other stuff at time so had a couple of questions about the trailers and procedures so decided to ask the local stobrats as surely they’d know right? [zb] me, was like trying to get blood out of a [zb] stone. spoke to about half a dozen stobrat drivers and none of them could even speak english except basic words and didnt even know what i was asking of them.

had a delivery to a store in barnsley and the guy said the stobrat driver before me was a polish [zb] and took 25 mins to reverse on the bay and in the process managed to reverse into a refrigeration unit in the yard, totally destroying it. you could see the damage to it, big hole in the side of it and all the wires hanging out. Amazing how they cant get drivers but have an attitude problem then ■■? I was in there ( Goole ) a couple of weeks back and they seemed to talk to drivers like ■■■■ !!! lol .

according to our gaffers stobrats have offered our company as much work there as we went because they cant get any drivers (!) but we are not locals and around 40 mins drive away. are things really that bad at goole? no-one seemed to know what they were doing there although the girls and old guy on traffic desk seemed right enough.

That ^^^^^^^^ went well!

I’d imagine making them cheaper in Turkey, getting a grant as you mentioned and being closer to more of their customers is a no brainer. Nothing to be confused about.

You might of read something in my post that wasn’t there. I don’t put British workers down. We make cars as good as anyone. As you say, build quality is a factor. And everytime i went into Bently at Crewe i marvelled at the skill of the guys fitting the ready made gearboxes, axles etc that came pre assembled from Europe into Britains finest marques. Thats skill !!

I was delivering to Tesco in York recently and their loading bay staff told me that 2 out of every 3 delivery drivers for Tesco are East European. I accept that as not being rumours.

I live near the Tesco on Tadcaster Road just off the A64.
The easy way would be to come off the 64 drive into York and it’s on it’s on the left.
The amouint of wagons you see wandering round the local housing estate is really quite astonishing.
Either the maps are crap or they can’t be read by the drivers many a time about 22:30 after a late shift I’ve led a driver through the estate and down to the Tesco.

It’s not just Stobart that’s using Easties if you work weekends abd nights it’s practically all you talk to.
In fact we have a haulier who when you ring says give me 5 minutes and I’ll ring the interpretor.
He rings her, she speaks to driver and then rings back.

As to Ford and Turkey I would imagibe that lack of union wqould be another thing.
I drove for a firm in Leeds who fabricated Catterpiller digger bodies.
I thn took them to Liecester to get put together.
We reworked a shipment from Mexico that had arrived at Catterpiller and I back loaded them up to Leeds.
We were told even with teh cost of teh rework it was still cheaper to make them in Mexico ship them to Leicester me to take them to Leeds and back down than we could make them from scratch.

Done tad caster one once and what a mare to find, seriously dead easy.
I think where the issues are comming is when you get a multi drop and you have to go from store-store,the risk assessment tales you how too get store I.e from m62 but not how too get from store 1 in leeds- store 2- store 3 - store 5 etc ,I heard a few horror stories of 2 hrs to get from 1 store to another ,2 nd store was 5 mins away,15 hrs too do 5/6 drops( going back and doing each store from m1 as per risk assessment instead of driving round the corner too the next)
I’ve had drivers follow risk assessment and turn up at the store I’m at,and ask directions too the store there meant to be at.
Like the driver who left goole to go too donny and ended up a immingham :unamused: :unamused: , :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ,his excuse was he’d took the wrong turning :unamused: :unamused:
The driver who was told by shop too head that way up road and turn left and it was a mile down the road on right, and he departed shop going in the opposite direction :open_mouth: :unamused:
I’m not convinced there that useless,I think some are doing this hoping to drag a few extra £££ out the job,or get lost ,get depot late and zb run will be gone.
I’ve done most and haven’t struggled, just ask a local and they’ll normally point you in the right direction, worst is normally getting in proxy expresses if late morning ,rather than finding them

i go to goole , and guess what iam english , plus i can reverse ,

do i get a prize ?

No, because your grammar is terrible.
