Any cyclists want to explain

A group of roadies out on a training ride, won’t use cycle paths cause they will be drafting each other. Eg taking in turns to be at the front in breaking the dirty air, and everyone else taking it easy in the slip stream of each other, hence a close bunch.

They aren’t doing anything wrong until they are 3 abreast.

I have explained earlier on in this thread, cycle paths are alright for family tootling, Doris and her wicker basket, leasurely riders, but for roadies who are clipped in the pedals doing 20-30mph they won’t tolerate a cycle path, a cycle lane then yes!

If you all feel that strongly then barrage your MPs to get a law for all cycles to use cycle paths, if you can’t be bothered doing that, then deal with bikes on the road.

Welcome to cyclenet.co.uk. :unamused:

I’m a cyclist as well as a truck driver, and can see no logical reason why certain cyclists won’t use the cycle lanes/paths that have been created at great expense for them. I always do. Of course, in Cambridge, cyclists are what the sacred cows are to India :grimacing:

That van man looks a right tasty geezer.
Reminds me of cockney w anke r . . from the viz comics.

Of course they could always use a velodrome…

You don’t win a Tour de France practicing indoors

So, as has been pointed out on here, that we all have a right to use the road, cyclists included, why don’t we all share the blame when something goes wrong? Because in the accidents involving cars/vans/lorries etc and cyclists, I’ve never seen any mention of the cyclist getting the blame, nor have I ever heard of a cyclist appearing in court to answer for his/her actions that may have caused an accident etc.

So come on, how about a level playing field?

I just want to leave this here.

Justified bitchslapping or not?

So what did the van driver do wrong in the 1st place, to warrant the hand gesture and horn? Or aren’t we allowed to overtake cyclists anymore,

Lance Armstrong had a pretty big case earlier on this year

All depends on the cycle lane/path if they are kerbs and junctions every 20 meters, and families with kids on bikes are using the cycle paths.
If your on a top end racing bike, doing 30mph whilst clipped in the pedals then the above cycle lane is pretty much useless.
If you got slicks on and they is a sudden downpour, water runs off trees with all the sap renders the cycle path a certain accident waiting to happen. Same as a freshly painted cycle path, slicks + rain + nice smooth paint = wheels sliding

I will go out with my camera this week and show you why I might not ride a top end racing bike whilst clipped round my local area of cycle paths. I know the lanes/paths will be obstructed with cars, branches, glass and lorries etc

Iam only assuming here why the Lycra clad urban bikers might not use a cycle path. Me however is a mountain biker who never sees Tarmac.

In my opinion cycle paths are ok for families to get around on, on a family bike ride.if they are careful of the glass and debris.

+1
