Anglo American and Lafarge announce JV completion
Company announcement

Anglo American and Lafarge announce the completion of their 50:50 joint venture, creating the UK’s leading construction materials company.

Anglo American and Lafarge announce the completion of their 50:50 joint venture which will combine their cement, aggregates, ready-mix concrete, asphalt and asphalt surfacing, maintenance services, and waste services businesses in the United Kingdom. The joint venture will be known as Lafarge Tarmac and begins trading today.

Completion of the Lafarge Tarmac joint venture follows final clearance from the UK Competition Commission, predicated on the completed sale of a portfolio of Tarmac and Lafarge construction materials operations in the UK, which occurred today. The agreed sale of Tarmac’s 50% ownership interest in Midland Quarry Products is subject to a right of pre-emption in favour of Hanson Quarry Products Europe Limited and, as a result, the completion of this transaction is pending.
7 January 2013

The Lafarge Tarmac combination is expected to generate synergies of £60 million through improving operational logistical and purchasing efficiencies and the introduction of value-added products across a wider geographic area.

Cynthia Carroll, Chief Executive of Anglo American, said: “We have successfully united two high quality and complementary UK businesses to create the leading UK construction materials company, with high quality assets, two experienced management teams, and a portfolio of well-recognised, innovative brands.”

Bruno Lafont, Chairman & Chief Executive of Lafarge, said: “The closing of this transaction and the creation of a new British construction materials champion reinforces Lafarge’s ongoing commitment to the UK market and its efforts to continuously improve its offering to customers, as well as playing a full role in developing the infrastructure needed for a growing economy.”

As announced on 23 November 2012, the Lafarge Tarmac leadership team includes Jamie Pike as Non-Executive Chairman, Cyrille Ragoucy as CEO and Guy Young as CFO.

There are stories emerging already of tarmac lafarge plants keeping the work that belonged to Hope plants before split. They are keeping work that they can supply regardless of distance & regardless of the work belonging to a Hope plant being closer to customer. Dirty ■■■■■■■■ couldn’t give a ■■■■.

Indian steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal has launched his new UK cement, concrete, aggregates and asphalting business, born from disposals from the Tarmac ands Lafarge merger.

The new force in the heavyside materials sector is called Hope Construction Materials and it opens its gate with a promise to re-define the service provided in the sector.

Hope operates more than 170 ready-mixed concrete plants, several aggregates operations, two asphalt plants and the UK’s largest cement plant at Hope in Derbyshire.

Using raw materials sourced and manufactured here in Britain, Hope also boasts a UK-based workforce of more than 800 people, selected from the two previous businesses.

As such it ranks as the country’s largest independent supplier of construction materials, with sites spanning the length and breadth of England, Scotland and Wales.

Hope Construction Materials Chairman Amit Bhatia said: “The formation of Hope Construction Materials is evidence of our belief that there is an opportunity in the marketplace to re-define the service provided by businesses.

“Our name refers not only to our core asset but also to this confidence. Led by a strong and experienced management team, I believe that Hope Construction Materials will soon establish itself as a player of reliability and quality.

“From Inverness to Exeter, and Llanelli to Lowestoft, Hope Construction Materials will supply the country with high-performance and innovative cement, concrete, aggregates and asphalt.”

CEO Chris Plant said: “Hope is the first major new name in the British building materials sector for more than a decade. We have a rare opportunity to take a different approach to customer service, bringing in new ideas, innovative products and services, and better ways to meet the needs of the construction industry. We have specifically designed the company to encourage fresh thinking and bring an entrepreneurial, partnering spirit to the industry.”

Seems all our work ( i,m now a Hope haulier) is being supplied by the the old Tarmac plants around us, they are both around 10 miles away from us, and are hiring trucks in,while we sit at home, i have even resorted to phoning Lafagre Tarmac and asking if they need any trucks!! ■■■■ this is getting grimer by the day.

Would be nice if someone from Hope had the decency to return my calls and let me know whats going on, But hey i,m just a ■■■■■■■ driver

Have a few messages on there already, Andi Hodgson on there is the ex Lafarge communications guy, he is obviously now working for Hope

Tarmac acting like a bunch of canuts, who’d have thought it.

had the 2 hope drivers from four ashes in our place today in there ex lafarge trucks, but still got there name on them,no work at there plant on monday,2 loads on tuesday ,nothing today ,nothing tomorrow but one of them got work for hope in brum.one man owns both trucks and he aint happy, what hes most unhappy about is right next door 2 there plant a new incinerator plant is being built, about 20,000 cm and they are half way through the job,he thought hope would be finishing the job being right next door but no lafarge supplying from wallsall,so much for the work being transfered with the plant.to make matters worse lafarge wallsall are so busy they are hiring in trucks and when he rang to find out if he could go in there they said no,your hope now we cant use you .hes furious and ya cant blame him.

look the same in norwich lafarge have moved next door and taking all the work .I have sat all week at work for one load .

id like to know how busy everybodys been this week jv and hope excluded cos we have been flat out all week.surely the likes of us at breedon, cemex, hanson and bardon must have picked up loads of work from the jv mess and confusion and what sounds like a shambles at hope or should i say hopeless.looks like the weather might come to hopes rescue which will give them more time to sort themselves out.

i wouldn`t say you picked up ANY work due to the larfarge/tarmac and Hope scenario. all thats happened is Tarmac/lafarge tucked up their ex contract hauliers and plants and transferred work to their plants from their old new hope plants.

been speaking to the customers all week mate and some of the stories they have told me you wouldnt believe so because of being messed about they have picked up the phone to us and simply asked fot the material ,the amount, the time job done.im not mischief making just telling the truth, next week for instance one customer who usually gets agilia for floor slabs from lafarge telford now as to get it from wallsall, too far, too expensive so getting material from us instead.we have just won a 4,000 metre order from a constant tarmac customer ,dont think we would have got the job without the jv.

Who pay’s for respray’s

Normski:
Who pay’s for respray’s
