Another violent truck robbery in West Midlands
21 January 2009
A Lithuanian HGV driver has become the latest victim in a spate of violent truck robberies in the West Midlands.
At 4.39am on 19 January, while parked up on Leamore Lane, Walsall, the driver was disturbed and opened the door of his Scania cab. He was then attacked and his 25-tonne load of copper stolen.
National freight crime intelligence unit TruckPol says: “The offenders were four Afro-Caribbean males, seen to escape in a dark-coloured Audi A4.”
The driver’s unit was liveried with ‘GIRAUD’ on its side.
The violent LGV robbery is the third to occur in 10 days within the West Midlands. TruckPol is urging drivers to be wary of opening their cabs to strangers and to park in secure truck parks.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact West Midlands Police on 08451135000.
police say park in secure truck parks maybe they can tell us were to park and be secure we could use the police station car parks as most stations are shut at night but then again that would not be secure would it

Our local police station is actually in a public car/hgv/bus park, hgv’s can park within a few metres of the station, the Police Station is newish with CCTV all around. A while back somebody parked a trailer outside the police station and went home in the unit. When he came back in the morning the trailer was gone, the police didnt see or hear anything, and the cameras were ‘not facing in the direction of the lorries’ the trailer was never recovered.
Having had it happen to me just last year I can symapathise with the driver, at least I didn’t get battered, just a car boot ride, and now a disciplinary to follow tomorrow. What is really hacking my company off is that the poice were made aware of the location of the trailer which was fitted with a tracker, but failed to act on the info. Secure lorry parks, what are they and where are they?

First. There are not enough Secure truck parks to go round.
Second. If four Afro-Carribeans came knocking at my door, I think I,d feel that I might as well open it. Their next move would be to “effect an entry”, as the coppers say, by using a sledge hammer , or a shotgun,on the windscreen. Much more messy.
Insofar as TrukPol are concerned, my personal view is that they, (or is it just He?)
are about as much use as a chocolate fire-guard. All they seem to catch is some poor ■■■■■■■ waggon driver who is 5 minutes over his time.

It is a sad fact that because it is so often the case - the police always assume that the driver is involved. Injuries are presumed to be a cover up for, at the very least, letting the thieves know when and where.
Copper is a valuable and easily sold cargo (£1000 pet tonne) so wtf was the driver doing stopping there.

like the forien driver with a load of beer that got robbed at sandbach(north) at 6-30am!!! the driver was found at lymm and the unit and trl at keele hald empty a few hours later!!
yes, Mr. B, investigated for parking in the wrong place, not in secure parking as detailed in the company handbook. Back to the question of where are the security parks near any major industrial or business centres. West Midlands police told me to park at Toys r us, there is a 24 hour mcdonalds next to it. That is fine, but have they asked toys r us if it is ok?
