A direct DC charger/adaptor is more efficient for just one device than an inverter so will be less drain on the battery and with the winter months coming this needs to be considered if your doing nights out!
And cheaper of course

Ah, right… Well, any ideas as to what exactly I should buy?

I got a charger unit from Maplin last year. Comes with a load of adaptors to fit almost anything.
Plugs into 12v cig socket, and puts out between 16 and 24v. Should do for most laptops.
Cost about £35 I think.
Sorry!
I am starting a new tramping job at the start of November. I have a 15" macbook pro that I am taking with me for entertainment.
I have searched around a lot for information about how to charge it while I’m in the cab. I have read alot about inverters but they seem a bit of a faff.
The truck I will be driving is an -05 DAF, and I think it has 12/24v cig and some sort of hella sockets.
Ebay / Amazon seem to have a lot of products for macbooks that you just plug into a 12v/24v cig socket:
ebay.co.uk/itm/Hypermac-Hype … 3a6bc98637
amazon.co.uk/Car-Charger-Ada … 400&sr=8-1
amazon.co.uk/Adapter-Charger … 400&sr=8-3
etc.
Will they work just as well as an inverter? Help appreciated!
No faff with most convertors. Just plug 'em in!
Oh, I found this on the apple site!

This should be just what I’m looking for, eh?

Well over priced for a 150W inverter, eBay have them for a tenner delivered.
