Another Cowboy off the Road?

From Todays Newcastle Evening Chronicle

Click here to read the story

The bit at the Bottom makes interesting reading

you mean like this Davey  Denis F

Friends Indeed! who needs enemies?

Is there more to read between the lines, local knowledge etc?

Spaceman, some of the directors of Martin Oliver have recently been jailed for permitting numerous tacho offences by their drivers - I think that`s where the link is

What amused me was the fact this guy was an owner driver, a friend of the Olivers, an ex driver of Olivers, he had 3,000 kilometres missing from their records and blamed an ex driver.

Now forgive me if I’m being pathetic, but firstly as an owner driver, how did he fail to collect approximately 1 weeks worth of tacho’s from this alleged driver that left, how did he not realise the tacho’s were missing, was he exempt from his legal duty of checking the discs to ensure the driver had remained within the law.

If the checks had been in place then he would of known exactly where the missing milage was and not stating it could be from the driver not handing the discs in.

I think you should have all the facts correct before you start to pass judgment on people.

Its so easy to cast the first stone so to speak but how many of you are really as squeaky clean as you make out.

You’ve got it spot on Basildo!! We have all done naughties and we all will if it suits us. There are not many who keep it straight. (This is gonna go down like a lead balloon but what the hell!!)

What I find strange is that there is no mention of any prosecution being made against this alleged driver.
Or of any defence claims of what had been done to try to retrieve these charts.

It’s one thing running bent and hiding a few Km’s it’s something entirely different when you Hide a few thousand Km’s, hang out with a Known Felon (Proved and convicted in a court of Law) but then try and blame another driver for the missing Km’s without proof

Yep I’ll still throw the stones, I wasn’t squeaky clean, but I certainly never in my 19 yrs on the road, had 3,000 and odd Km’s missing from my charts. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

As the report in the journal reads his punishment was having his license taken away.

As I am also aware his defence was made but like his quote said “he was associated with the Olivers so tarred with the same brush”

3,000 kms is a lot but they do mount up over the months by doing a bit here and a bit there

So if you drive for them then you have to be bent is that it

basildo:

just out of interest, Do you/did you drive for them ?

basildo:

Nope, thats not it, when you cannot produce records the same as the other party then it’s more likely that you have taken the advice of how to make Km’s disappear.

This Guy blamed a Driver, and supplied no proof that he had made any attempt to recover the missing charts, no proof that the other driver existed, no proof that he had located the week in where the charts were allegedly missing from, no evidence that he had made any attempt to recover the charts.

Call Me Thick, but if he cannot even be bothered to support his claims at a hearing with the commissioners, then he obviously knew where the missing milage was and oddly enough, again call me thick if you like, if he was indeed innocent

Why has he not launched an appeal or protested at his innocence

Sorry, but Cowboy springs to mind

what happened to that firm at haltwistle was it called crawfords on the egger uk contract.

why’s this bloke a “cowboy”? he’s been an owner driver for 13 years and apparently not had any bover before this! many disgruntled temp drivers have dissapeared with their tacho’s before now and the fact that all the missing charts were from the same week backs that up, seems to me his association with the olivers has cost him dear but thats typical vosa.

think you will find that THIS GUY did protest, did provide proof and did provide the week the incident refers to. But as your link stated they were concerned regarding his links to Olivers. If he knew them and was friendly with them then surely in their opinion he must be guilty.

Tarring everyone with the same brush springs to my mind.

according to Commercial Motor he was a director of Revilo - that would probably get lots of VOSA attention

I tend to agree with Davey here,

Cowboy comes to mind with the evidence printed in CM. Lets hope William Armstrong can run a tighter ship.

3000km missing in a week and not noticed takes some explaining :open_mouth:
