Another bad smash on M25 north side

Been an absolute nightmare thus week! I run mainly out of Tilbury and all the closures have lost me at least half a day so now have a late finish tomorrow. Most of these accidents have got to be down to poor driving, how have they managed to overturn a truck on a straight section of speed restricted road otherwise? Don’t think banning trucks from lane 2 will make a difference as this will just lead to increased frustration with the car drivers who only want to travel at 35mph. Are we really saying that as hgv drivers we are unable to drive in a way that suits the road layout? Surely the existing restrictions just need enforcing more often. I’m quite surprised that the police haven’t seen the opportunity to start nicking people for lane sitting , undertaking and speeding in roadwork’s.

It is quite frustrating to get behind a middle lane hog car doing 42 mph in these roadworks, but it’s only 10 miles or so…let it go, slow down, drop off, calm down or whatever. I see far too many HGVs in the 2nd lane thrashing along right up somebody’s back end especially on this stretch. Of course it’s nobody on this forum (we’re all saints, not sinners!) but never the less there are truckers who will push it for the sake of 6 mins.

Im not, the police are plebs:lol: I think their theory is the slower things go on the roads the less likely something will go seriously wrong that requires their attention or attendance (so that they can go & toss it off or deal with easy petty crimes), also what’s good at wasting fuel is good for the treasury & whoever else benefits from increased fuel consumption…

It does not matter what you ride or drive you can easily loose your life or suffer serious injuries that will affect you or your family possibly for the rest of their lives and all for a little bit of patience and consideration. Some seem to think its always the other driver/rider, everybody that’s involved plays a part but someone will have played the major role in that incident don’t let it be you. Keep yourself safe and everyone else.

Normally lane 3 is the 6’6" restriction one with lanes 1 and 2 unrestricted. As well as keeping trucks to lane 1, why not make lanes 2 & 3 both narrow and keep a full width lane 1. Would give a bit more breathing room.

Where they are doing the bridge works on the M40 at Oxford the roadworks only have 1 lane for all vehicles. 2 and 3 are restricted.

Prob a foreign driver

Bit of a rash assumption but without generalising I have often seen these Belgian registered motors from this company driving badly to say the least, especially when you are trying to keep to the speed restriction in road works or on the QE2. Guess they are trying to do round trip in a day and want to get to the ferry/train ASAP.
Do they run for Vauxhall/GM?

It was an English Ewals truck with a foreign driver. I can’t say too much, but on this occasion, from what i know, the arrest is justified and hopefully he gets what he deserves. If one of the road-workers survives, which he is critical at this time, his life has been changed for ever.

One wonders where it will end…

When JIT ends and very strict delivery slots are removed.
Load when they open, and tip before they close are my favorite collection/delivery slots!

Jeez… I think I’d rather muck out pig pens than don the yellow overalls, and work behind those cones… Hope they are well paid for the risks they take. :open_mouth:

My two pennarth is that when we’re over there we’re usually based in Orpington or Crawley. Every time I’ve been on that M25 in roadworks some bleeding numpty in an artic is right up my jacksy, and I’m in the n/s lane doing the limit in a line of traffic. People that say how much driving standards have dropped are dead right and it’s hgv’s that I’m talking about just as much as car drivers. It’s about the same here in Qld, but at least the trucks are limited to 100KM/H which is the limit in most places.

The police are obsessed with “speed kills” so we get all these poxy cameras instead of having cops out on the road nicking the idiots.

It’s not the speed that kills - it’s the 'decelerating to 0mph in less than a second’ remember… :unamused:

Oh they are. A neighbour’s son was on a road gang and frequently worked overnight on the motorways. He was on £26 per hour for Fri/Sat/Sun nights :open_mouth:

I wonder what that works out per each cone put down/taken up… :unamused:

went round the northern section yesterday, and imo the lanes aren’t wide enough.you can see all the tyre marks where trucks have been off the road.

It is the 3rd hit that kills you.

Hit 1… vehicle comes to a sudden stop. Accident

Hit 2… driver comes to a sudden stop. Seat Belt or steering wheel

Hit 3… internal organs come to a sudden stop. Rib cage

How many of us have an airbag fitted into their ribcage though? :unamused:
