Another 4m truck hits the 4.1m Bridge?

wheelnutt:
Some heads need to roll too at the council. Typical layabouts will probably get away with it.

To be fair the signs are likely to be the responsibility of a private contractor.

While it’s obvious that the solution for the tax payer is for all metric conversions on signs to be removed and drivers have to know the height of their vehicle in feet and inches.Sorted.

Muckles you made a tenner.

I am cracking a beer.

I was getting worried there for a moment, the thread lost momentum, but Carryfast has come through.

I think that’s it for me on this one.

Enjoy your Beer.

Carryfast:
Yes we know. That’s an occupational hazard in being what happens when someone tries to measure a bridge in the foreign version of yards and fractions of yards because the foreign version of ‘yards’ is all they have.Rather than feet and inches. :smiling_imp:

You finally agree that the truck driver was not to blame and as always the useless muppets at the council couldn’t even do this simple job.

That isn’t exactly what I said. The Council zb’d up the metric signage while the driver should have been expected to know the height of the vehicle in feet and inches before leaving the yard. The sign said 13 feet. What is the height of the truck.

The sign said 4.1m, what part of that can’t you grasp?

At least the flip-flop is in good company.

If NASA can get it wrong, what hope is there for the rest of us??

Carryfast is of course right, because it is entirely logical in the 21st century to give precedence to a system of measurements based on the size of a barley corn.

NASA, isn’t that America ■■? Don’t they use some sort of “non-metric” system to measure things, as stated by a certain Carryfast, earlier in this rant, sorry discussion, .
And another apology can’t be arsed to find his quote, I think it was about 25 pages back,
Oh no there’s me thinking in metric again, it was 3 pages back

switchlogic:
I personally think its ridiculous that we’re still faffing round with feet and inches anyway. Metric makes far more sense. Will annoy certain little Englanders I know but there we go.

Imperial measurement are out of the ark, metric is just so much easier to work with. I suppose those that still work in imperial are still into pounds and ounces and weigh themselves in stones :unamused:
Re the trailer height there are more factors to be taken into account, low ride tractor with low profile tyres will obviously ride lower, standard suspension tractor with 80 series tyres and high mounted fifth wheel will ride higher. My own unit has std front steel/ air rear and very low mounted fifth wheel (no rear arch fillers as the bottom of the trailer is only just above the tyres) allowing the roof deflector to be on its lowest setting and more than clears a 4m tilt…

Three more pages since I last looked this afternoon! Another Carryfast special! I’ve not looked but is he on to 6x4s, the war, the American south and various economic theories yet?

I said 5 pages minimum :unamused:

Radar19:
This springs to mind.

Perfect!

re the 2 or 3 axle thread, i gave up on the merits of 4x2’s on that one …preferring instead to bang my head repeatedly against the corner of the nearest brickwall… :grimacing:

CF drove a class 2 for 3 months for a local council 25 years ago. He is our resident village idiot. He knows nothing about trucks or regulation and the rest of the rubbish he posts is just crap he finds on google.

Just put him into his place and he will shut up after a few pages when he has dug the hole deep enough for himself.

He only gets to use the dayroom for a few hours a day before the nurses fetch him and put him back on his meds.

All this measurement guff. I don’t actually know how tall 14ft 6" is but I know I won’t fint under anything lower than that number. I don’t know how heavy 12 “Stone” actually is but its quite heavy. I don’t actually know how long a mile actually is but I know its kinda long. Same goes for yards, I see it on the roadwork signs, couldn’t tell you if its right or not.

I was taught metric is school yet I learn to read Imperial measurements from my parents. My mum loves to tell tales of money per-decimilistation, funny things like Shillings, 1 Bob notes, Thrupenee Bits, Penny Farthings etc.

Carryfast is an expert on the subject in the same way that I am an expert on sewage systems because I once had a massive dump.

Exactly - neither me nor you would have got stuck as we would have known we were running at 13’ 1" and unlikely to fit under a 13’ 0" bridge.

And I have big news for all you metric devotees - brexit means brexit so you’re all going to have to forget this foreign metric rubbish and learn to measure and weigh stuff properly.

Whether the UK is in the EU or not has nothing to do with which system of measurements we use.

Does it also mean the UK will be back to £/s/d? How much was a guinea now? 21 shillings wasnt it? :grimacing:

A thread that was started on a Thursday and received 16 replies inn the space of 12 hours then goes on to get 5 pages worth in another 10 hours. Amazing
