Hullo All,
I don’t know how many of you are aware, but one of our old friends is about to desert our shores for ever ( or so he tells me). Chazzer, alias Charlie Gethin is leaving Whitney tomorrow (13/8/09) for Seatle in the USA. A good friend to many of us in the past has been our Charlie, just like me a couple of Baghdads, and then a lot of Greece. I have spoken to him tonight and on the behalf of many of you who may have known him, I’ve wished him the very, very best in his new life. He will I am sure still be watching this site with interest. So GOOD LUCK CHARLIE. Go for it.
Cheers, Archie.
ps. Bebado muito no minha Vinho Tinto, ata logo Charlie.
Hi Archie, thanks very much for those kind words they are much appreciated by myself and er indoors. I’m taking a literal translation of the portuguese at the bottom to mean don’t change the habit of a lifetime and keep taking the red vino. Obrigado my old friend.
Hullo Charlie, you old bugger,
Obrigado Charlie, Boa sorte o meu Amigo. Você será faltado por muitos
Hullo All,
I was just thinking of one of the last times I saw Charlie, maybe it was the last time. It must be I should say 20 years ago. I was in Dover waiting for hours , as we did for clearance. I went over to the showers. the ones beside where we used to come through the final customs. I got my shower (cold water as per normal ), and as I was drying myself, what with the cold and everything, my back went, I could’nt move, I was in great pain. I had to wait for another Driver to come into the showers, eventually one came ( french I think ) and then I had to ask him, “Sorry mate could you help me get my underpants on”, and help me with the rest of my gear. Difficult eh ? I’ll bet at first he thought I was a Bender or something. ( Good job he was’nt Greek ) Eventually though I got dressed and managed to get myself back to the Wheelhouse. I was in the shop when in walked Charlie, “I can see you hiding” he said, “it’s no good trying to hide from me”, The PRAT. I was bent over double in pain and was lower than the counters. Anyway he took me up to Dover Hospital where they checked me over and fed me with plenty of pain killers, and set me free. A real ■■■■■■■ at the time but funny afterwards when you recall it. Do you remember that time Charlie. ? Thanks Mate.
Cheers, Archie.
Loaded with ships paint on AG12

Hullo fly sheet,
I seem to recognise the bloke with the cigarette, but can’t put a name to him. And why are you taking the photo from a Skip ?
Cheers, Archie.

Looks like the inside of a skip Archie, I went in 1 door & Les went in the other for a nosey, I took my camera & took this snap.
The oranges look nice though!
Hullo fly sheet,
Yes your right, the oranges look great. Who is that bloke ? Les ? No I don’t think I remember a Les, but still he looks like somebody I knew. Do you still run down there ?
Cheers, Archie.

Hello all, nice to be back on the net again, now a fully fledged resident of Obamaland I’ glad to see the Anglo Greek topic rise again, lovely pic of my ex transcon under one of Hoggy’s trailers. Have’nt seen Les Phillips for 20 odd years did’nt know he was still driving down to greece. When was that picture taken must have been a long time ago cos he does’nt look much different. Archie I’ll mail you when I get a chance and I’ll probably start a new topic about trucking in the states when I’ve taken some piccies to put on there, they’ve got somw wierd and wonderful configurations up here in the northwest.

Hi Chazzer, the picture must be nearly 20 years old now, Les was in the GCG transcon he drove. As it goes he’s just got a greyish beard now but looks the same.
On a different note whats the local feeling on Obama & his policies up your way? I was talking to a couple from Dallas in Philadelphia a few months ago & they had nothing good to say about the man, just wondered was it a Texan thing?
Be good to see some pics when you get a chance.

Correct Toddster, affectionately know as Cooperman.
I saw him a few years ago just north of Beilin, Spain. He was on his way to Morocco doing the garment run.
colonel did cooperman used to run a dirty navy blue F12 around 95/96 doing the greek run? he was of scouse origin if i remember correctly, i shipped over from brindisi with him and freddie noble a few times when i was on for assured freight out of thurrock.
Sorry Germangeezer, I cannot remember what make his truck was in those days, but he was a regular one on the Greek run for some time. Freddie Noble eh!, long time since I saw him.
