Well I worked for F SHORT Ltd in 1968/1973, A very good firm to work for paid decent money and expences, Thay had depot in Hull, & an office at Stockton, I left to become an owner driver, Then my eldest son went to work there as a apprentice fitter and in 1979 my youngest son went there too, Ken Short was a great gaffer, Sam Anderson took them over IIRC.1984, After Short had lots off driver problems , Who more wanted more money for less hours work, I wont mention names but one of his drivers who was a Union man said if Ken Short didnt give in to the drivers he would put him out off the trade, I was in Normans Cafe in Brotherton one night and he was spouting out about his power with the Unions and he would see Shorties go down, The re was complete silence for a few minutes, Then a driver spoke up and said to him why dont just have ■■■ and travel, In other words FRO, Then Sam came to the rescue and did take Shorts over, Sadly not too long ago Sam Andersons packed in all together, Regards Larry.
