Analog chart

Do we still need to carry a chart with us?

In case we gotta jump into an older truck in an emergency?

Yeah do we still. We need to carry 1 for this reason!

None of our fleet have analog heads, and I dont carry any. If your company still has analog heads then it maybe a good idea, but surely thered be box of `em left in the truck? Any unused disc left loose in a bag with your sarnies will be scratched and useless soon enough.

I thought we had to carry one, just like you need to carry spare rolls?
Regardless of what fleet has?

Well if your company doesn’t own any analog lorries they ain’t going to suddenly get one from a hire company (considering they vanished around 2006) so I don’t understand why you need any?

Your company wouldn’t have them im guessing so are you going to buy a box off ebay just incase?

No you don’t…

Also you will not be fined £25 for every turn of the winding legs up to the top.

The world is not flat.

You don’t have to carry a chart or a spare roll of printout paper, if there’s no chance that you’re going to drive a vehicle fitted with an analogue tachograph there’s no need to carry charts, when driving a vehicle fitted with a digital tachograph you have to have enough printing paper to be able to provide any printouts required by the police or a DVSA enforcement officer.

While a spare roll of printing paper is advisable it’s not compulsory.

Thanks Guys

If by chance you do have an analogue tacho you will know that before you leave the depot, therefore there should be tachos available in the Traffic Office As for spare rolls you should have two at all times, therefore its three in total one in one spare and the third when you use the spare. Could be wrong and will stand correcting but thats how it was before I retired from driving

As has already been said - no legal requirement to have any spare print rolls - but best practice would be to have a roll or two just in case a lot of printing is needed.

Also as has been said, the Operator has a obligation to provide charts of the correct type and quantity if analogue tachos are used. I suppose it wouldn’t happen if you were away from base and suddenly transferred to an analogue vehicle unexpectedly :unamused:

I think the VOSA printer roll RDC story went a bit like:

Driver stopped asked to produce a printout, driver ran out of paper half way through printing.
No worries driver inserted spare roll and produced printout complete.

VOSA dude said that’s great now show me a spare roll of printer paper.
Driver unable to produce so £100 fine and lite felching with a house brick punishment given.

That’s still RDC bull**** though.
There is no requirement to have a “spare” roll. You only need to have “enough” to produce a record when requested. If it ran out before being able to print the required record then clearly you would not have had enough and may be liable for a fixed penalty, but if you had a spare and were able to do the print out then that would be acceptable.

Clearly it is best practice to have at least one spare paper roll with you since you can’t be sure just how much is left in the printer, but you can’t actually be given a fine unless you fail to have a sufficient amount to print any requested records.
