from left to right,
■■■■■■■ 250, then the next three had the Cat 300, the odd ball was a cancelled order that i picked up 6 grand cheaper from Charnwood trucks, i think it was a Truck2000 order originally.
Great pictures Mr Smith keep them coming
Hi Mr Smith any chance you knew my dad Allan Stanley■■? During his time on Ameys, A R C he worked for John Long Owner Driver,
he was on the weighbridge at the old Queensford Pit as a checker i think thats what they called them in them days.
He won lorry driver of the year in Coventry in a 6 wheeler tipper on 16th september 1962 i still have his Certificate, pictures, and paper work.
He did travel about in them days to lots of other pits , Sodbury, Chedder was regular?

Hi Mixer 11, Any pics are more than welcome if you could put them up ,paticularly from the Amey -pre Hanson era —toshboy
The Volvo and Yale shovels look very modern in those pictures. Nice to see a shovel driver doing his best to upset the H&S man by driving with the door locked back and no seatbelt…
…I know a shovel driver who still does this…
Hi nathan how come you come off the road■■? Reading between the lines i take it your driving shovel in the pit

I was asked to try the vacant shovel job out at Gill Mill (I did it before I got my class2). Did it for a 3month trial, asked to go back on tippers and was told I’d have to wait for a wagon. Wasn’t happy but something maybe happening this week…
Hi Muckaway,
I See that your photos to this thread have all been deleted and wonder how this came about ■■

Hi Toshboy, had some problems with Photobucket so I’ve shut account. I’m going to repost as many as I can which I’ve backed up so when I can I’ll check old posts and repost photos.

Thanks for the reply Nathan
“An Amey quarry in Witney” is the caption. I’d guess it’s along the Crawley Road, Witney as there’s now a housing estate called Quarry Road along there.
The Bedford behind looks like an ex Witney Stone Co vehicle.

Hi Muckaway , The Bedford would have been the standard Amey WD tipper of that era. The Foden if IIRC was the star of the fleet new in 1949 -driven by Den Parrot 12 cu yd 3 way tipper .can you tell me if correct by reg no and ram positions ■■? thanks toshboy
HBL 210 is the reg, Toshboy. It looks like a twin ram, set about halfway back.
I’ll find the Witney Stone Co pictures later. Not sure if they were a separate concern that were taken over, or a joint venture with the quarry landowner. Ie like at Lechlade where it was Amey/Pooles gravels.
I’ve seen a picture of a steam wagon with" ? and Haines, Stone quarries, Witney" written on it. Haines owned a couple of quarries near Witney that became Kingston Minerals and then ARC. The mothballed stone pit at Whitehill near Burford was one, and Hardwick gravel pit where Cemex and Fergals’ are now.
They had another near Fairford where the waterski school is now; Don’t know much about that one but I’m sure Altitude and MGB will.
“Witney Stone Co lorry being loaded by an Ameys’ loader.”
“Ameys’ trucks loading at Witney Quarry.”
Dixs’ Pit, Stanton Harcourt. Long exhausted, but still being filled as a civic amenity site.
