American Holidays

what is the average entitlement over there

I think pat or someone else will tell you if i am right on this, there is no minimum requirement for holidays in the usa.
But i would say most OTR drivers have 2wks anual leave & a few bank holidays.
jimmy.

My daughter lives and works in the USA seems she gets about two weeks and Christmas day.

I work in Calgary Canada i,ve been here 4yrs and work for a big third party company and only get 3 weeks plus Stat Days ( Bank Hols ) having said that i only work 4x 10 Hrs shifts Mon to Thurs

hitch:
‘…what is the average entitlement over there…’

You are entitled to ask for a ‘stick-shift’ but have no guarantee of getting one.

Calling them ‘Holidays’ is a joke
On most companies you have to work a whole year before you get a week off, it rises to 2 years after 3 years of service. In transport we get 6 public holidays but thats a joke too  I have to work about 4 of them or at least start in the evening.
It’s New years day, Memorial day (end of may), 4th july, Labour day, Thanksgiving and Christmas day. Most companies expect you to be ready to start work after midnight on any of these days. We don’t have boxing day but I always refuse to work it.
There are lots more public holidays but only a few companies observe them. The first company I drove CDL for here were slightly more fair in the fact that annual holidays climbed as the years passed by after 5 years it was 3 weeks and gradually climbed to 5 weeks, they also adopted Boxing day due to my input I hope

Don’t you get the day off for your birthday?

Our cuz who drove bendi-busses in the Bronx got poor hols compared to Europe, and he had seniority there.

Thats coz he’s a city employee, they are spoiled rotten.

At least your Cuz didn’t drive one of those yellow school buses. They are the worst drivers in the world and the stupidest. I see them driving round with a full load of kids, phone against the ear, turning left from a right lane. They start at 05.00 and work till 09.00 then go home till about 2.00pm then work a couple more hours. What gets me is they don’t get paid for having to stand by all morning or for the school holidays.

The yanks don’t really do holidays, 2 weeks is your lot. Not like the 4 weeks we get over here. I think you can take personal days at some firms but I doubt truck drivers could get away with that.

Our company allso has ‘working holidays’ :unamused:
Just a slight contradiction in terms

interesting thankyou
was reading about industrial dispute at Ikea
only get 12 days annual hols assuming
plus 6 public days that Pat mentioned

I forgot to mention the two ‘Personal days’ we get, but booking them seems to be like booking seats in the royal box at Wembley
