Amber flashing arrow

What does this mean?..

It’s illuminated whenever the green man is showing (pedestrian crossing, Bath)

Good question don’t think I’ve ever seen one tbh. So anything I said would probably just be a complete guess.

roads.org.uk/articles/pedes … ment-ahead

Borrowed from other countries, so basically a quick skim says if the arrow is flashing you can proceed to turn left if there is no one crossing or summat like that.

Given most drivers capabilities on the road it would just confuse things further and cause more problems than it solves most likely.

That…

Was my thinking too. Why add more lights and complicate things un-necessarily.

Turn with caution.

Surley though if it means turn left with caution etc. it would be on the left hand side of the road where it’s much more visable.
Instead of on the right hand side.
Maybe it’s for cyclists as looks like might be cycle path there
?

Firstly it looks like ahead there means to the left.
It looks like a divided crossing at which pedestrians could confuse the green signal at the first section with the whole crossing.
Flashing amber always generally means proceed with caution be prepared to stop here and abroad.
Some countries take it to the extreme by setting all traffic signals to flashing amber at night.

stuff like this should be what CPC courses cover. New changes to the highway code. New road signs like this. New legislation etc.
If I saw that I wouldn’t have a clue

Really? Anyone with a pulse should be able to work it out. A flashing amber light , just like a pedestrian crossing after the red light, it means go if safe to do so, this one is a left arrow, so it only applies if that is where you’re going.

Why ?.It’s just a variation of the red/ flashing amber/green rule like most signal controlled pedestrian crossings. In addition to the much wider use of flashing amber signals abroad even sometimes on blind bends and tunnel entrances.

Why now?..

What changed?

For decades we’ve been successfully driving through these kinda crossings and now all of a sudden, there’s an orange flashing light. Stu, I’m surprised you’re normally on the ball here but, in my opinion you’re missing the point. Why fix what ain’t broke? It’s an un-necessary added complication. It’s just what a defence solicitor would use in a court against you.

It’s probably more an attempt to fix what’s broke in pedestrians not being able to recognise and negotiate a divided, staged, pedestrian crossing. The result being drivers understandably taking their green signal at face value, while pedestrians are crossing the second stage of the crossing against their red.
