Am I wasting my money

Probably the best, most comprehensive and useful post for an inquiring newbies I’ve read in this forum Juddian.
(Well, easily the best actually…)

I’m just sad you have given away the secret of getting on in a job (whatever the trade), and thus better rewarded! :unamused: (Don’t tell everyone!)

Cheers for taking the time to post that!

What you said above is spot on, I have always believed attitude breads attitude. Keep your head down, respect your kit and you soon get a name for yourself. I went from a 18.5k salary in March 2014 and now I’m on around 35k I’m trusted to get on with the job and bring the volvo back in one piece.

I like my job, it infuriates me when people slag itoff just because they can’t tow the line!

I did class 2 for HSS 2010-2014 left there, did some shunting and skips, got my class one now I do ejectors. So 5 years but am only 28 I’m still young enough to better myself

Cool, well done pal! :sunglasses:

2010-2014 I had a 500 pound payrise, then in just over a year I’ve not far off doubled it and I do zero nights out! Stick at it

the best thing to do is do what you think is right for you same as any job has its ups and downs money aint what it used to be unforuntly as there are alot of polish and who ever else back here working for minimum wage so us brits are expected to do the same but you have to get some experience before you can get on high paid jobs im currently doing a assessment for a recycling company which is £10 a hour guaranteed 8 hours a day with minimal overtime but i am slowly working m way towards trmping work which i would like to do round europe as i amn young free and single this is ideal for me and has been a dream since a child i personally dont think its a waste of money as it is a guranteed job for life i know others maywell disagree but good luck whatever you do

I’m looking to get a start right now, or rather when the DVLA give my my plastic licence back (Passed Class C last Monday).
So I’ll do just about anything to get the experience I need. However that doesn’t mean i have to be stupid and jump straight into the first thing the agency offer me, as I suspect it will be the role that they can’t fill for love nor money, well love anyway…

I’m also very flexible about my days and hours, so that should help me get something…

We will see…

Excellent mate, bit of muck and brass there by the sounds of it, TBH at that rate with no nights away and especially given your part of the country you’re doing very well.
I didn’t get my big break until i’d been driving artics plus others for around 13 years, similar to you in that i suddenly increased my earnings but by going back to driving a van at night, which by chance (right place right time i had the class 1) saw me shift straight into one of the best paying night trunking jobs of the 80’s, never looked back, you just never know what’s round the corner.

One thing i forgot to say in my rant was that age means nothing in this game, i’ve worked with brilliant old drivers and i’ve worked with old ones who its staggering that they haven’t been sacked off years ago.

Young ones just the same some useless some really good ones doing their best to learn it all and doing well.

The one good thing about this game though is that lack of ageism (so far) means you arn’t chucked on the scrap heap in your mid fifties where people in other fields often find themselves, so you can still be earning well, and hopefully for as few hours/days as possible in your autumn years.

Age means nothing, my best friend is 52 and he has still got it :sunglasses: he’s showed me nearly everything I know regarding attics, issue you can have is some newbies know best… If someone can show me a way that will make my life easier’ I’m all ears!

Is he a roofer? I suppose you could od that if the driving does not work out?

What I found funnier, was that while Alder gave you a cheeky slap, he made a typo himself!

(Sort of thing I would also screw-up!..)
