I wish people would listen to alder, dessy and the rest telling wannabe drivers to stay away from this job because no matter how good you think it is now you will regret it later. If you want to be a labourer get a job digging the roads up don’t spend £3000 to get a licence so you can work for brakes or others like them.
And we wish you would shut the [zb] up.
alder:
So you join the army
That’s the thing, I wouldn’t. Don’t get me wrong I’m sorry for those who come home injured and those who loose family members, but that’s part of the job isn’t it? You can’t go somewhere prepared to kill and not expect people to fight back.
so op, have you come to a decision yet? this has gone on for 5 1/2 pages and I have an inkling that it’s far from dead yet. some food for thought
Alder and the other silly bollox should be barred of tnet ,if not there wont be any drivers left the way its going with these muppets ,
Have I missed anything?
Alder, it look like someone has a crush on you pal! - Wally seems to have taken a liking too you!

If that’s the best you can come up with then we must be right, you have only got to look how many times you post on here 300 times more than me in 4 years less or 5 times a day like so many you are in love with the job and truck and will never see how little you get paid for the hours you are doing or how you are being treated. It used to be good job that I enjoyed doing but when I quit just over a year ago it was the best thing I could have done, now I work a 35 hour week for more money than most drivers get for 70 hours.

Says another one who’s so in love with this job he posts 7 times a day

That doesn’t sound d so bad to me. However every job has its bad points. I do think there does need to be a balance of people saying they love the job on here and those who don’t and want out. But there’s no need to be rude to each other about it.
I’m glad your now in a job your happier in mac12. I’ve been in a job in the past that I hated and the management treated their staff like dirt. It’s soul destroying.

I agree with Trog, my last job in a factory was better paid but ■■■■■■■ hated the place, and the manager a proper control freak. It’s lucky I passed Cat C because I got given 4 weeks notice, so took it upon myself to find a driving job. Yes I agree every job is good and bad, I took up driving a truck coz it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and me gramps used to do it so want to make him proud.
But don’t get me wrong, I’m earning less at the moment but enjoy myself more. Being out and about. Meet and greet and all that , but if in a few years I start to not enjoy it so much then I’ll go and do something else. I won’t just stay in this career and moan about it on here lol

Your right, there are some very good driving jobs it’s just very hard for any driver to get them as staff never leave and for each good one there are 50 bad ones. To me no driver should have to work maybe 80 hours per week to make a living but when the 48 hour week started drivers moaned so POA came in so they could work longer bit like turkeys voting for Christmas.
Your also right about no need to be rude this is a forum sometimes you agree sometimes you don’t, but sometimes drivers who have seen the job go downhill like this one has maybe right not always but sometimes.
I used to be a welder/fabricator.
It’s ■■■■■■■■.
I also used to work for a turf accountant…that’s ■■■■■■■■ aswell.
Hey mac12; If you quit driving trucks 12 months go, why do you come on here?
Isn’t there a bellend net? Surely that would suit you better.
I am a welder. It’s still ■■■■■■■■.

I’ve got ■■■■■■■■, but I’m not a welder!

I’ve skimmed through some of the posts, but i’ll give my humble tuppenceworth too.
The job isn’t what it used to be, which is good in some ways and bad in others, but all things in life move on, women aint what they used to be and increasing numbers of blokes aint worth a light, but there’s enough of the good ones left for each other, that make sense?, nah thought not.
Other things haven’t changed, you’ll die and pay taxes not necessarily in that order, politicians will always lie and line their own pockets, the media will always broadcast the propaganda that keeps it rich.
I’ve been in the job a lot of years, i started as i meant to go on, by trying me best to earn the money without being away from home any more than necessary, i learned the job and took a pride in it, i drove some right scabby sheds, but looked after them as best i could and got issued better tackle when they realised i’d look after it and earn them money as well as me.
There’s an awful lot of negativity on this forum, and thats understandable, but some people won’t get on because they lack the work or pride ethic or both, yet blame the industry as a whole for their short sightedness, lack of pride/competence/care/work ethic when it’s quite possibly their own fault if they haven’t managed to find their way into the better work, though to be fair some people never get a break or are maybe afraid to take a gamble now and again.
There’s lots of crummy jobs out there, both in and out of transport, but no one’s being forced at gunpoint to work there, if the job’s crap you find a better one and pack it in, then if you find a better one still you move on again.
The problem in transport is that some think a big Scania with a row of spotlights is transport heaven, it aint unless your mortgage company will accept pics of your big lorry instead of the £600 monthly payment and so far i haven’t seen too many doing that.
You have to make your own way in this game, i see posts asking where’s the money, who should i work for etc etc, some think they can run before they can walk.
A two week course at a driving school will probably gain you a licence, from that moment you are just starting to learn the job and if you do it for another 40 years you’ll still be learning it, what happens to you once your test is passed is really up to you.
You’re on no interest to the big payers as an unskilled or unreliable driver and it’s up to you to prove yourself, not for them to train you up.
If you want route of sitting on your arse at poxy RDC’s or sleeping/vegetating whilst a bunch of east europeans unload your container for 4 hours every day of your working life then you’ll be stuck at the dog end of transport for ever, you’ve got to break out of the standard trucker mould and make yourself desirable for better things, it won’t come to you by divine right and no one advertises the cream or specialist jobs because bluntly they don’t want to be swamped by also rans, companies that pay well know that their own drivers will find all the good applicants they’ll ever need for them, vet them too because those in good jobs are usually (can be exceptions) sound enough of mind to know that their jobs depend on the company making money too and employing numpties is the kiss of death for everyone.
Good employers will also pick from walk ins or cold callers that impress them, so use your nous by getting on your bike, as Norman Tebbit once upset a few when he suggested it, works.
If you work hard, skill yourself up and prove yourself reliable and trustworthy, the transport industry can still provide a good living and they’ll welcome you with open arms.
A drivers reputation is everything, its a small world out there especially when you get into specialised and or highly paid work, they don’t want the sickie crew who are unlikely to turn up if they don’t like the run they’ve been given or have broken a finger nail, those blokes are no use to man nor beast and all they’re worth is minimum transport pay which is what they’ll always be on.
Earn your reputation, skill yourself up, get yourself a rock solid checkable no sickie work record, look and act the part, and prove yourself dependable and you’ll be surprised what a driving job can pay without having to work all hours God sends.
And for Christ’s sake stop bloody moaning about the job those who do, i know blokes averaging £20/25 an hour who never stop bellyaching, if you paid them a grand a week to lie in bed it would still be wrong, they demoralise everyone around them.
Good tuppence worth IMO Juddian.
